Legion Commander is a very successful and very popular Dota 2 hero right now.

Dota 2 patch 7.32 offered her great buffs and since then, she has been picked quite frequently in pubs. The pick rate right now is 14.5% and the win rate is 53%. These are very impressive numbers for LC.

Legion Commander’s strengths

Legion Commander is a strength-based hero with an attribute increase that makes her really strong in the early to mid game. The best starting stats of LC are her strength, damage, and movement speed. At 330 MS, this is one of the fastest heroes in the game.

With a pair of boots, a wind lace, and Overwhelming Odds, Legion Commander can easily reach maximum speed for the duration of the spell’s bonus. This means that you won’t have any problems dueling enemies in the early stages of the game.

However, as the game progresses, Legion Commander needs a Blink Dagger or a Shadow Blade to ensure that she will catch the right target in a duel.

The whole purpose of this hero is to trap a target and force a favorable fight. In many cases, you’ll want to duel either a high DPS carry and use Blade Mail before the duel starts, or simply go for a low-HP support that can be killed in just several seconds.

The biggest benefits that LC gives to your team are initiation, strong dispel (using Press the Attack), and tankiness.

How to play Legion Commander

Legion Commander feels a lot like Faceless Void, except for the fact that her ultimate will only catch one enemy hero. The natural duration of LC’s ultimate is 4 / 4.75 / 5.5s. The cooldown of this ability is 50 seconds. Because of that, it’s very useful to buy an Aghanim’s Scepter. With it, the cooldown will be just 30s and the duration 6/7/8s.

Keep in mind that buying an Aghanim’s Scepter will be useful if you have enough damage or damage return to get the kill on your own. Otherwise, it may hinder your team’s ability to assist you.

In a lot of cases, buying an Aghs is a great idea even if you don’t have enough damage to get kills. The fact that you can neutralize a key target for 8 seconds is priceless in late-game situations. While you’re dueling an enemy, the rest of your team can deal with the other four.

Legion Commander should be played as a position 3 hero. She does not excel in the carry role and she is an underwhelming position 2, unless you know exactly how to get early duel kills.
