A new type of book-collecting puzzle has arrived in Genshin Impact with version 3.6 – the Lost Grimoires. These haunted tomes can be found scattered throughout the Faded Castle dungeon, flying around aimlessly until calmed by the Symphony powers unlocked during the Aranyaka quest chain.
For players looking to hunt down all 8 Lost Grimoire locations and return them to their rightful Bookshelves, we’ve compiled this complete walkthrough guide. Doing so will bestow the Loved By Books achievement and reveal some hidden areas behind the Castle’s Bookshelves.
Lost Grimoire #1
The first Lost Grimoire can be spotted right away when first entering the main hall of the Faded Castle. Head up the stairs to the left and use Symphony’s Tap power to grab the tome from the corner.
Lost Grimoire #2
Continuing up those same stairs, the second Lost Grimoire will be visible floating at the top landing.
Lost Grimoire #3
From the Castle entrance, go south across the bridge and take the stairs down into the lower courtyard area to find Grimoire #3.
Lost Grimoire #4
Just keep heading downstairs from #3’s location and take the next left – Grimoire #4 will be fluttering around this corner.
Lost Grimoire #5
Teleport to the waypoint in the Castle’s middle level and go east, descending the stairs toward the Exhibition area. The fifth Grimoire can be found at the bottom, with a short environmental puzzle to complete first.
Lost Grimoire #6
From that same middle-level waypoint, head south into the small library room. One Grimoire will be circling near the study tables when you enter.
Lost Grimoire #7
Stay in the library and look near the tiled floor area for Grimoire #7 flying around the benches on the lower level.
Lost Grimoire #8
In this same library, locate the blue crystal mechanism and strike it to spawn some floating platforms. Ride them up to the upper levels and you’ll spot the final eighth Grimoire next to a Bookshelf.
With all 8 Lost Grimoires in hand, approach any of the Bookshelves around the Castle and use Symphony’s Hold skill to clear the books aside. You can then return the Grimoires to their proper places, unlocking the Loved By Books achievement.
Hidden Areas in the Faded Castle
Each Bookshelf cleared also opens up a new hidden area behind it, containing valuable loot like Exquisite or Precious Treasure Huns, Sumeru Bounty materials, and even a couple of Hydroculus Oculi.
The toughest challenge is likely the third area, which requires some skilled Symphony platforming and dealing with hostile monsters. But the payoff is an Essential Handguard for upgrading the Plantan set.
In total, cleaning out all the hidden Bookshelf areas yields:
- 40,000 Mora
- 120 Hero’s Wit
- 8 Fragrant Sandalwood
- 3 Exquisite Chests
- 1 Precious Chest
- 1 Essential Handguard
- 2 Hydroculus Oculi
So it’s well worth going for 100% completion on this nice bit of supplemental end-game content. Those still working through the Aranyaka main quest can also use the same Symphony skills to extinguish ghostly flames and progress further.
Accessibility Issues
The one downside to these new Faded Castle Lost Grimoire puzzles is the control scheme required. Players must awkwardly hold down keys to use the Tap and Hold Symphony skills on PC, or find the right radius sliders on controllers.
This could make the platforming challenges unnecessarily frustrating for those with motor disabilities or impairments. Genshin’s developers would be wise to consider accessibility options like toggle inputs in a future update.
But overall, the Lost Grimoires is a delightful little detour–combining light puzzle-solving, exploration, and rewarding loot. It’s great to see Genshin continuously injecting new forms of endgame content beyond just endless combat challenges. Here’s hoping more creative secrets like this await in future updates to the ever-expanding world of Teyvat.
