The Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) has announced that its flagship campus esports tournament, Campus Legends, will be returning for a sixth season.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and VALORANT players will be featured in the league, which also has a running campaign for anti-drug abuse alongside the National Council Against Drug Use.
SCOGA President Dennis Ooi says the event is more than just competitive play.
“Campus Legends is not just about gaming, it’s about empowering youths and preparing them for life’s challenges. Students learn invaluable communication, problem-solving, and resilience skills through the camaraderie and teamwork fostered in our tournaments,” Ooi said in a statement reported by the Esports Insider.
Since 2019, Campus Legends has taken place to feature competitions in several esports titles, with a focus on education and having these students compete in a professional tournament.
A spinoff of Campus Legends for the Philippines, Campus Legends Philippines, was also done in 2023, but it is unclear whether this will return due to the increasing student esports tournament market in the country, such as AcadArena Education’s Alliance Games and Dark League Studios’ Estudyante Esports.
The 2024 theme, as mentioned earlier, will be centering on the theme “Towards a drug-free Singapore”, and aims to promote the benefits of a drug-free lifestyle. Also to be featured is a convention for parents to educate them about esports and gaming, as well as education on the problems of drug use.
AOC, Acer Predator, MyRepublic and SCAPE are expected to sponsor the tournament, which will have a total of S$10,000 (more or less US$3,740) in prizes.
