The League of Legends European Championship announced on June 28 that the Swedish city of Malmö would host the 2022 LEC Summer finals. Fragster caught up with the four Swedes playing in the LEC to find out their reactions.

Fragster spoke with Finn “Finn” Wiestål (Excel Esports), William “UNF0RGIVEN” Nieminen (MAD Lions), Emil “Larssen” Larsson (Rogue), and Erik “Treatz” Wessén (SK Gaming) during Week 3 of the LEC Summer Split.

Reactions to LEC Finals location reveal

Fragster: What was your reaction to the announcement that the LEC Finals were going to be held in Sweden?

Finn: It’s like a dream come true. It increased my motivation by like, 200%. I’ve never really played in front of a big crowd, and to play in front of a big crowd in Sweden would be absolutely amazing. I cannot see a future where we [Excel] don’t make it there, honestly.

UNF0RGIVEN: I think it would be really cool to play in Sweden.

Larssen: It’s kind of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because there might not be another Finals in Sweden. So it’s definitely something that’s extremely hype and something that motivates me a lot. When I start to lose motivation, I just think of Malmö. It’s also very close to where my home is in Sweden and it’s definitely extremely hype knowing that my friends and family will be able to come watch me if I make it.

Treatz: It’s very exciting to have any tournament in Sweden and I think Swedish fans are very passionate for esports, so I think it’s a very good location to have a Finals. I think it was meant to be in Sweden before Covid so it feels correct to me that it’s ended up in Sweden again.

Malmö recommendations

Fragster: What are the must-see and do things in Malmö?

Finn: It’s a beautiful city. I’m not 100% sure, but it’s going to be in September, right? So I hope it’s still going to be a little warm and people can enjoy the canal between Sweden and Denmark. You can probably get some lovely food down by the port and just enjoy the sea breeze and the ocean.

Treatz: Hopefully we have some good weather for the Finals because I think it would be very good if people can enjoy the beaches in Malmö.
