The Esports World Cup announced that the Sony Group will be the tournament’s Founding Partner.

In a statement on its LinkedIn page posted March 19th, the Esports World Cup Foundation, which manages the event, says they are “incredibly honored” to announce the collaboration, which “highlights our shared goal of celebrating esports and gamers worldwide.”

“Sony is the perfect partner for the Esports World Cup,” said Esports World Cup Foundation CEO Ralf Reichert. He adds, “our goal is to establish a global platform for esports and gaming that sets new standards for live esports events. Sony’s experience in creating stunning visuals, engaging music, compelling storytelling, and state-of-the-art technology will be a game-changer for the Esports World Cup. The EWC aims to take esports to the next level, and we are thrilled to count on Sony’s world-class expertise in this endeavor.”

Among the highlights of the partnership are an Esports World Cup anthem to be composed by Sony Music Entertainment, a documentary series by Sony Pictures Entertainment, and what it called “new and exciting ways to experience the pinnacle of competitive gaming.”

Sony Group’s Executive Deputy President Toshimoto Mitomo, says the move will help emphasizeSony’s existing commitment to esports through various related endeavors like PlayStation Tournaments and the EVO fighting game series.

“We’re excited to make the Esports World Cup more fun and engaging for fans globally by harnessing the creativity and technology from across our diverse businesses. Sony has been enhancing the esports experience, especially with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s initiatives such as PlayStation Tournaments and the annual EVO fighting game series. We look forward to further catering to this growing, global community of players and fans with the Esports World Cup,” Mitomo said.

The Esports World Cup is part of Saudi Arabia’s National Gaming and Esports Strategy. “The Esports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become the premier global hub for gaming and esports, offering an unmatched esports experience that pushes the boundaries of the industry. The competition will enhance our progress towards realizing the Vision 2030 objectives of diversifying the economy, growing the tourism sector, creating new jobs in various industries, and providing world-class entertainment for citizens, residents, and visitors alike,” said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Fortnite, Rocket League, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Starcraft II, Counter-Strike 2,Honor of Kings, PUBG Battlegrounds, PUBG Mobile, Overwatch 2, Dota 2, and other titles have been announced for the 2024 Esports World Cup.
