XSET, OpTic, DRX, and Leviatán have already secured their spots in the VCT Champions 2022 playoffs after nearly six days of competition, and four more teams will shortly join them.

With just four more matches to play, the group stage of VCT Champions 2022 is almost over. Valorant Champions 2022 has already seen the elimination of four teams, and four more will do the same after the Decider Matches are over. Asia Pacific’s XERXIA and BOOM Esports are no longer contenders for the title of Champions, along with China’s first international seed EDward Gaming and Brazillian powerhouse FURIA Esports.

What we’ve seen in group stage so far

Team Leviatán completely dominated Group A, defeating Master Copenhagen runners-up Paper Rex in the opening match and Team Liquid in the winners match to clinch the first playoff spot. The first team from China to compete in the worldwide competition, Edward Gaming, appeared to be outmatched by the more seasoned competitors. After losing to Paper Rex and Team Liquid, their first international trip came to a dismal end with a 13th–16th place finish.

In the first match, which lasted three games, BOOM Esports put OpTic Gaming to the test in Group B. OpTic, however, were able to maintain their momentum and overcome BOOM 2-1 before taking down LOUD Esports 2-1 in their head-to-head match. After putting up an outstanding showing throughout the group stage, XSET became the second North American team to earn a spot in the playoffs. The squad defeated the in-form Master Copenhagen Champions FPX (2-1) in a thrilling best-of-three series after initially sweeping Xeria (2-0) in the opening game.

The top Valorant team in Korea, DRX Gaming, took control of the final group, winning two matches effortlessly to advance to the playoffs. First, the team crossed its sights on FURIA and landed a clean headshot, crushing the Brazilians 2-0. The Korean squad defeated 100 Thieves 2-1 in their subsequent game, keeping Asia’s chances of winning the international event intact.

Upcoming Matchups

The Valorant Champions 2022 playoffs will start on September 9 and the event will end on September 18 with the grand final. The last match of Group A will take place on September 7 between Paper Rex and Team Liquid, while the final match for Group B will pit LOUD against the Zeta division on the same day. KRÜ and Fun Plus Phoenix will battle for the seventh spot in the playoff, with the European-North American clash between 100T and Fnatic ending the group stage of VCT Champions 2022. While the winners will join LEV, OpTic, DRX, and FPX, the losers of these decider matches will also be eliminated from Valorant Champions.
