PGL Wallachia Season 1 Preview

PGL Wallachia Season 1 is a $1 million Dota 2 event organized by PGL. The tournament will take place in Romania’s capital city, Bucharest, between May 10 – 19.

For ten days, we will have the opportunity to watch 16 of the world’s best teams fighting for money and prestige. We don’t know to what extent will Valve take into account the results, but they are probably watching the action closely.

This year, because of the decision to drop the Dota Pro Circuit format, the direct invitations to The International are a lot less transparent than in previous years. No doubt, Valve likely has an internal system for determining who the best teams are. But we don’t get to see it.

PGL Wallachia Season 1 Participants

Here are the 16 teams that will compete in the tournament:

• Xtreme Gaming
• Aurora
• Shopify Rebellion
• HEROIC
• Tundra Esports
• Virtus.pro
• G2.iG
• Blacklist International
• Nouns
• BOOM Esports

Most of these teams received direct invitations based on their previous results in 2024. Only six of them were offered the opportunity to qualify for the tournament. Among them, Tundra Esports, G2.iG, and nouns will be the most interesting ones to follow.

After joining nouns, Fly failed in three different regional qualifiers, always losing against Shopify Rebellion in the Grand Final. But for PGL Wallachia Season 1, they didn’t have to face Rebellion in the qualifiers, so there was nobody to challenge them in North America.

Favorites

Based on what we’ve seen in the past four months, it’s clear that Team Falcons, Tundra Esports, and Team Liquid are the favorites. Xtreme Gaming, Gaimin Gladiators, BetBoom Team, and Team Spirit should also be regarded as strong teams.

Falcons will be challenged by everyone but it seems that their synergy is incredibly good at this point. The fact that they also have some of the best players in the world and a coach who won The International both as a player and a coach is quite helpful. This is not a team that can be defeated with ease.

You know in advance that they will play their strategies almost perfectly. They can still be beaten but only by an opponent that’s capable of doing the same. In most games, even though it may seem that the odds are equal, Falcons are far more likely to win because of their decisions and team fighting prowess.
