Over the past few days, the North American LoL competitive scene has been buzzing with rumors. Finally, however, one of those rumors has become a reality; officially, NRG returns to the LCS with the acquisition of CLG.

Of the rumors that have surfaced recently, some have already been denied, as was the case of a possible incorporation of Sentinels into the LCS. However, other rumors have become an official fact, as is the case of NRG, one of the most recognized esports organizations in the industry, returning to the LoL competitive scene.

NRG returns to the LCS with the acquisition of CLG

Yesterday, April 6, the news was released that NRG is returning to the LCS; the organization has officially stated that they are buying CLG and will take over their position in the LCS from now on.

The person in charge of announcing this news was the executive director of NRG, Andy Miller, who assured that his organization would keep most of the infrastructure that currently makes up CLG in the League. He also confirmed that no changes would be made regarding the LoL staff.

Miller comments that the players, coaches, Academy teams, and analysts will keep their positions.

On the other hand, Miller adds that changes will be made; for example, the team will be rebranded from CLG to NRG as soon as Riot Games approves. In addition, Miller assures that Madison Square Garden Corporation will make a large investment in NRG Esports.

CLG says goodbye to the LCS

The CLG brand is bidding farewell to a long career in the LoL competitive scene; one of the oldest organizations has provided countless emotional moments for all game fans.

The team, over the years, has been in charge of reaping great success; we can mention that 2015 was their first championship, and the following year their participation in the Mid-Season Invitational was extraordinary.

We can say that CLG has had some very good times and some not-so-good times throughout its time in the LCS. Which is natural after 13 years of competing in the top category.

However, the CLG team has known how to stay in the competition even though, during many seasons, they did not get the best results; this year, they returned strongly to the leaderboard’s top positions.

The organization saw that the team was not giving results to all the effort invested during 2020 and 2021; they decided to shift focus to building the team. The team was placed under the leadership of head coach Greg Kim and a new league division director, Jonathon McDaniel.

Thanks to these changes, the team was able to experience little-by-little improvements that led them to reap some success and joy for all the team’s fans. So it can be very positive that the NRG management wants to keep the lineup.

We can say that the mark left by CLG for the LoL spots will be indelible; this organization contributed to positioning LoL on the map as one of the most important games. NRG, on the other hand, will seek to take advantage of the great opportunity they have to create its legacy.
