McDonald’s, BCGA, and Gen.G have joined forces to host a summit where college students interested in learning about esports and video games can come together.

This incredible partnership was made to offer the HBCU College netWORK. This summit was held yesterday thanks to McDonald’s joining forces with two great organizations. One was Black Collegiate Gaming Association (BCGA), and the other was Gen.G, one of the world-renowned esports organizations.

The event provided opportunities for black college students to network with entrepreneurs and experts in the gaming and esports industry.

But that wasn’t all; at the summit, 16 students had the opportunity to compete in a small NBA 2k tournament and battle it out for the $1k prize purse. In addition, the tournament was streamed on Gen.G’s official Twitch channel, thus giving the summit a more comprehensive view and exposure.

Keshia Walker of BCGA commented that with the realization of this summit, they hoped to open the doors to the new generations of esports players and keep them over time within the industry.

Walker affirms that their objective is to provide knowledge and tools so that they can gain confidence and young people can pursue their dreams.

The summit included meetings between successful black esports leaders and students to achieve these goals. In this way, the leaders were able to guide these students.

Likewise, conferences were held on topics of great interest, such as the growth of cryptocurrencies and the evolution of NFT and blockchain. In addition, there was some talk about how to deal with toxic behaviors in the workplace.

Group of speakers at the summit

The summit was attended by highly influential groups and individuals such as:

  • Wicked Saints Studios CEO Jessica Murrey.
  • Game designer at Skydance Interactive, Jabari Alii
  • HipHopGamer

Plus, other powerhouses shared their knowledge with the younger generation.

Overall an excellent experience for the young people, but that was not all; at the end of the presentations, the students had the opportunity to meet privately with the panelists. They were able to build their network of contacts in this way.

Comments on the summit

McDonald’s Business Unit President Craig B. Welburn commented on the company’s commitment to helping the younger generation thrive. He added that working with these two organizations is a pleasure to create environments where young people can transform their dreams into reality.

The summit is ideal for young people to interact with gaming and esports professionals to minimize existing gaps.
