The second day of Major IV of the CDL season 2023 is history. Toronto Ultra, Florida Mutineers, and Minnesota RØKKKR managed to stay alive in the Elimination Bracket. However, it’s not all good news for the fans as Boston Breach, Las Vegas Legion, London Royal Ravens, and Seattle Surge say goodbye to the tournament.

Undoubtedly, we lived a spectacular day and, above all, full of emotions. But, on the other hand, we also witnessed one or two surprises that, in this type of on-site tournament, we will always observe. We are talking specifically about the elimination of the Las Vegas Legion by Florida Mutineers because there is no doubt that no one expected this result in this match.

With 50% of the Major completed, only seven teams are left out of twelve with a chance to lift the championship trophy.

Toronto Ultra brings out its championship tag against the Breach

While it is true that Toronto Ultra, champions of Major III, had a forgettable online qualifier for Major IV, the boys got off to the best possible start in the main event and eliminated Boston Breach. The series was very interesting, but the Ultra always had clear dominance. Finally, with a spectacular level of play by Jamie “Insight” Craven, Toronto Ultra took a comfortable 3-1 series win over Boston Breach.

The first two games were mere formality for the Major III champions, as they picked up wins at Breenbergh Hotel (Hardpoint) and El Asilo (Search&Destroy) by scores of 250-183 and 6-2, respectively. After that, however, the Breach would not stand idly by as they picked up a narrow 3-2 victory at El Asilo (Control) in the third match.

However, this was not enough for the Ultra’s to lower their intensity, and they pulled out a 250-217 win at Al Bagra Fortress (Hardpoint) to seal their victory.

Florida Mutineers pull off an upset by beating Las Vegas Legion

One of the teams that have struggled mightily in this 2023 CDL season, Florida Mutineers pulled off a major upset by defeating Las Vegas Legion, one of the teams that had shown the best level in the online qualifiers. However, this is not new for the Mutineers, as in Major III, they also managed to advance to round 2 of the Elimination Brackets after defeating the New York Subliners.

Everything started very well for the Mutineers, as they achieved a great victory in Mercado Las Almas (Hardpoint) with a score of 250-206. However, Las Vegas Legion struck back immediately at Breenbergh Hotel (Serach&Destroy) to take the win 6-4.

This series’s back and forth continued at Breenbergh Hotel (Control), as Florida Mutineers took a resounding 3-0 victory to put Las Vegas Legion on the ropes. However, thanks to an incredible awakening by Donovan “Temp” Laroda, the Legion were able to even the series 2-2 after an emphatic 250-194 victory at Al Bagra Fortress (Hardpoint).

Finally, and to put the icing on the cake, in an intense and close game, Florida Mutineers won 6-5 at Al Bagra Fortress (Search&Destroy).

Minnesota RØKKR sends home London Royal Ravens and Seattle Surge

The big disadvantage of finishing at the bottom of the online qualifiers before each Major is that teams will have to play two games in a few hours, so we will always have two teams eliminated on the second day of the main event. In this opportunity, the Minnesota RØKKKR dressed as executioners and sent London Royal Ravens and Seattle Surge home.

Minnesota RØKKKR was coming off a Winners Bracket loss to Los Angeles Thieves, and their first game was against London Royal Ravens. While teams like the Mutineers have pulled off surprises in the Majors, the Royal Ravens have been quite the opposite as they could not win a single game against the RØKKKR and were swept with a crushing 0-3 to go home with only one game played.

Next, the RØKKKR had to face the Seattle Surge and Los Angeles Guerrillas winner in round 2 of the Elimination Brackets. At this point, the Surge got an excellent win over the Guerrillas to advance to the match against the RØKKKR.

Seattle got off to the best possible start in the series against Minnesota by winning the first two games, Zarqwa Hydroelectric (Hardpoint) and Al Bagra Fortress (Search&Destroy). However, this did nothing but wake up the purple beast, as the RØKKR applied a spectacular reverse sweep to win the remaining three games to stay alive in this Major IV.
