The 2022/23 season of the Rocket League Championship Series in North America continues to be defined by spectacular competition. After FaZe Clan ended Gen.G Mobil1 Racing’s winning streak at NA’s Winter Cup two weeks ago, this time they did it again against G2 Esports in the Grand Final of the RLCS Winter Invitational with a crushing 4-1 scoreline.

For the second time in a row, Nick “mist” Costello, Caden “Sypical” Pellegrin, and Jason “Firstkiller” Corral win the Regional in style, this time against G2 Esports in the final.

Moreover, Gen.G had to say goodbye to another streak in this tournament. It is the first time in the entire 2022/23 season that the team did not qualify for the Grand Final of a tournament. With the conclusion of this event, all the spots for the upcoming Major have been filled.

FaZe Clan take over the NA region in RLCS

Before the RLCS regional tournaments started, it was clear that it was almost impossible for Gen.G Mobil1 Racing, FaZe, Complexity Gaming, and G2 Esports to be left out of the next Major. This means that the fight would be in the final placings of the table, which would determine the placement in each of the groups in the Major.

FURIA Esports, the semi-finalists of the last RLCS World Championship, were eliminated in the group stage after losing their first two games. With this, their dream of participating in a Major faded almost immediately. Spacestation Gaming, M80, and NRG were too eliminated on Friday, so the table was set for Dignitas.

However, Dignitas were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Complexity with a score of 4-0. OpTic Gaming had high hopes of reaching the tournament’s grand final, but they ran into a powerful G2 Esports in the semifinals and were crushed 0-4.

FaZe give a blow for the second time in a row to Gen.G

Before the above happened, FaZe Clan faced Gen.G Esports in the quarterfinals. This duel was not expected to occur at this stage, however, FaZe’s surprising second place in Group B made it possible.

In this match, FaZe showed a spectacular ability to respond. After losing the first game (1-3), the team bounced back and crushed Gen.G in the next four games to take the 4-1 victory. This ended Gen.G’s streak of making it into the final after six events.

Complexity could not beat FaZe in the semifinals

After a perfect group stage for Complexity, where they finished with a 3-0 record and qualified directly to the quarterfinals, they managed to crush Dignitas with an incredible 4-0 win. However their drive, encouragement, and confidence were not a match for the NA region’s tormentor FaZe Clan, and they ended up being crushed with a disappointing score of 0-4. On the contrary, FaZe showed up in outstanding form and will undoubtedly do their best to keep it up until the Major.

After reaching the final, FaZe overwhelmed their opponents, dropping only two games in 15 of the four matches. A high-flying performance that puts them at the top of the list of favorites for the San Diego Major, set to be played from April 6 to 9.
