The Rocket League Championship Series 2022/23 in the NA region has completed its second qualifying tournament, the NA Winter Cup.

When we all thought that Gen.G Mobil1 Racing would be the undisputed tournament champions, the popular North American organization, FaZe Clan, gave a strong blow on the table to take the champions trophy in this Winter Cup.

Let’s remember that the results of this cup serve to determine the teams that qualify for the RLCS Winter Major to be played next April. In addition, it also allows teams to accumulate points for the RLCS World Championship in August.

FaZe Clan wins against the best team in NA, Gen.G Mobil1 Racing

The NA Winter Cup 2022/23 has come to a close, and with it, we saw the top 16 teams from North America, Latin America, and Brazil battling for a share of the $100,000 prize pool and RLCS points for the upcoming top-tier events. This event was held in a 100% online format and was played from February 17-19, 2023.

As we mentioned, FaZe Clan managed to pull off a delightful surprise by beating the favorites and team that seemed unbeatable, Gen.G Mobil1 Racing. FaZe beat the #1 of the NA region and the former champion of the RLCS of this region in an intense grand finale that ended with a score of 4-3.

Undoubtedly, this day has been spectacular for FaZe Clan and his boys. The team improved their performance in the previous Winter Open, finishing 9th-12th place.

FaZe Clan’s path in this RLCS Winter Cup 2022-23

The group stage was a real walkover for FaZe Clan. However, the three victories obtained were substantial and comfortable as they defeated Shopify Rebellion (3-0), M80 Esports (3-0), and NRG (3-1). With this, the team finished in first place in Group B and advanced directly to the quarterfinals of the Winter Cup.

At this point, FaZe Clan continued their winning streak, as they crushed Knights with a score of 4-0 and G2 Esports by 4-2. With this, the team secured its pass to the tournament’s grand final.

Gen.G Mobil1 Racing’s road in the RLCS Winter Cup 2022-23

Like FaZe Clan, Gen.G showed in the group stage why they are considered the best team in NA. With resounding victories over KOI (3-0), OpTic Gaming (3-1), and Dignitas (3-0), the team secured first place in Group A and a direct ticket to the quarterfinals.

In the playoffs, they did the same against M80 (4-2) and Complexity (4-0) to confidently reach the grand final match against FaZe Clan.

The Grand Final was fascinating; remember that the RLCS is a best-of-seven playoff game. After FaZe Clan started the series with three consecutive victories and were only one win away from being champions, Gen.G woke up and won the next three games to force the seventh and decisive game.

Finally, FaZe recovered from these three consecutive defeats to give them a real beating with a score of 5-0 in the seventh game of the series.

Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing remains on top in NA

Despite this result, the Gen.G Mobil1 Racing boys remain at the top of the overall NA standings. There is no doubt that they are still the best team in the region, and this loss can only make them come into future tournaments that much stronger.

We at Fragster congratulate FaZe Clan on their victory in the RLCS NA Winter Cup 2022/23. In addition, we hope their victories continue throughout the season.
