For the most part, the group stage of IEM Dallas ended with predictable results. In group A, Heroic, G2 Esports, and MOUZ were the top three teams that advanced to the playoffs. In group B, the winners were ENCE, Astralis, and FaZe Clan.

The teams that were expected to do well but ended up being eliminated are Cloud9, Team Liquid, and FURIA Esports.

Group A summary

In group A of IEM Dallas 2023, Heroic proved to be much stronger than the rest of the teams, including G2 Esports and MOUZ, who ended up qualifying for the playoffs. Both of these teams were defeated with ease: 16-9, 16-4 (against G2); 16-6, 16-10 against MOUZ.

In both matches, with the exception of Rene “TeSeS” Madsen, who had lower stats, everyone had a major contribution to the team’s success.

It’s hard to tell how strong G2 are at the moment but it’s clear that they’re no longer at the level they ended 2022 and started 2023 with. This is a team that’s struggling to find the right strategy and probably lacks motivation to some degree.

Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov continues to get excellent scores in almost every match, but some of his teammates get destroyed in the big confrontations. For example, Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen had a K-D score of 14-38 against Heroic. He might be the IGL, but that doesn’t allow him to do so poorly.

For MOUZ, the road to the playoffs was not very challenging but still required a solid performance after the defeat against Heroic. MOUZ had to beat FURIA and OG to finish third and they won each match without losing maps.

Group B summary

In group B, ENCE played much better than anyone expected, defeating Complexity (16-7), FaZe Clan (2-0), and Astralis (2-1) to claim first place. For Astralis, the road was even harder: 19-17 against Liquid, 2-0 against Cloud9, and 1-2 against ENCE.

In the match against ENCE, despite the loss, Nicolai “device” Reedtz regained some of his lost confidence and his score was ridiculous: 94-51. The next best player on the server had a score of 68-47.

Unfortunately for device, his entire team got destroyed by ENCE and even Benjamin “blameF” Bremer, who is usually a top fragger, finished with a K-D score of 47-59.

The battle for third place was won by FaZe Clan, who managed to defeat both Liquid (2-0) and Cloud9 (2-1).
