The Thunderpick World Championship 2023 thrills continue, and we are very close to knowing the tournament’s champion. After two spectacular semifinal matches, FaZe Clan and Virtus.pro managed to advance to the tournament’s Grand Final.

Monte and Cloud9 also had many chances to win the tournament. However, their rivals were superior in decisive moments and sealed their victory.

On the other hand, it is also fair to mention that VP managed to win two series last Saturday. Due to server connectivity issues, their match against Heroic was suspended in the first half of the first map on Friday. As a result, the series resumed, and they pulled off a solid 2-0 win to advance to the semifinals.

Now, without further ado, let’s see what happened in the Thunderpick WC 2023 semifinal matches.

FaZe Clan apply a reverse sweep against Cloud9

We expected a balanced, tight, and very even series, so we had it. In addition, it is also worth mentioning that both teams gave their all to take the win, with Cloud9 being the one who struck first by taking the first map. However, this remained there, as FaZe Clan applied a reverse sweep to take the victory.

It all started on Overpass, FaZe’s map pick, where Cloud9 started extremely well thanks to their new signing, Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov. In the first half, FaZe surprised with an exceptional T Side and took the victory by 7-5. However, at the change of sides, C9’s offense was mind-blowing, and after 8 consecutive winning rounds, they managed to take the victory by 13-7.

Then, on the second map, Anubis, things changed radically, as FaZe Clan managed to even the series 1-1 by taking a great victory by 13-8. The start of the map was identical to Overpass, as, on their T Side, FaZe managed to take the partial victory by 7-5. However, this time, the team prevailed to win by 13-8 to even the series 1-1.

Finally, we had a heart-stopping match in Ancient, where the teams had an excellent give-and-take to have a 6-6 score in the first half. However, at the change of sides, FaZe Clan, again with a great offense, managed to take the victory by 13-8 and seal their ticket to the Grand Final.

Virtus.pro struggled but beat Monte 2-1

The second match of these semifinals left us with an excellent comeback by VP against Monte by 2-1. In addition, it is also worth mentioning that Monte, just like Cloud9 did against FaZe, won the first map. However, VP prevailed and won maps 2 and 3 to qualify for the Grand Final.

The series started in Overpass, VP’s map pick, where Monte started very strong, winning the first half by 8-4. Then, the VP’s defense was weak at the change of sides, and they lost 6-13.

In the second map, Anubis, things started to change little by little, as, after an exciting 6-6 in the first half, VP, with Dzhami “Jame” Ali at his best, managed to take the victory in 7 out of 9 rounds played. As a result, VP evened the series 1-1 after winning 13-8.

Finally, in Mirage, we had a great match that had to be defined in 11 overtime rounds. The teams split the rounds across the map, finishing 6-6 in each of the halves. However, after some very interesting battles in OT, VP won 19-16.
