You know that a league’s competitive level is high when Kuro “KuroKy” Takhasomi’s team is considered to be one of the underdogs.

Western Europe’s Division I features some of the best Dota teams on the planet. Three of them finished The International 11 in the top three. Several more finished the tournament in the top eight and top 12. There’s hardly any team in this league that doesn’t have a real chance of qualifying for the first Major.

Competitors

There will be four participants in the first DPC Major of the year from this region. Most likely, those teams will be Tundra Esports, Team Liquid, OG, and Team Secret. But three other competitors have a decent chance of securing the spot as well.

Right now, we don’t yet know how strong are some of the teams after changing their rosters. OG decided to replace Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf with Dimitry “DM” Dorokhin, who’s nearly 23 years old and used to compete for Virtus.pro. This could be an upgrade for the team but it’s not very likely.

Other teams, like Liquid, seem extremely strong right now. Even though Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen retired after The International 11, Liquid have replaced him with one of the best position 1/2  players in the game: Michal “Nisha” Jankowski. His abilities will likely allow Liquid to replace MATU without dropping in strength.

The best teams in the region remain Tundra and Secret. The two of them played in the Grand Final of The International 11. Tundra won with ease and the last few subpatches haven’t changed the game enough to cause them any problems.

Assuming that Tundra haven’t abandoned all training after The International, they will most likely be the winners of Tour 1. There’s nobody in Europe who can understand their tactics well enough to beat them twice in a best-of-three.

Tundra will play a total of seven matches in Tour 1 and they’ll most probably finish with a record of 7 W – 0 L or 6 W – 1 L. Even with five victories, they will qualify for the Major and claim the first or second spot in the region.

Team Secret need to prove themselves once again. Losing Nisha must have hurt Clement “Puppey” Ivanov. He invested four years of his coaching hours into this player and made him one of the best in the world. Now he’ll have to do the same with Miroslav “BOOM” Bican, the team’s new position 2 player.

The only team that’s guaranteed to relegate and lose almost every single match is Into The Breach. They simply have no hope at this competitive level.
