The Closed Qualifier that will send two teams to Division II of Western Europe’s Dota Pro Circuit is scheduled to take place between December 19-22.

Most of the eight participants are total unknowns at this point, but two of them are full of amazing players. And that is why this tournament means something, despite being just a qualifier for the second division.

Rules and format

The event will last four days, which will give the participants ample time to study each other after the initial matches and adjust their strategies. The design of the tournament favors the strongest teams. Every match is best-of-three and the double-elimination format will be used.

This means that Old G and Monaspa, the two big favorites, will have two chances to qualify. If one of them manages to stay in the upper bracket and win it, the other will almost certainly manage to win the lower bracket.

Participants

The eight participants in the Closed Qualifier are listed below:

  • Old G
  • Monaspa
  • Ooredoo Thunders
  • HAVU Gaming
  • Team Blink
  • KZ Team
  • Le Classique 2.0
  • TBD (either 5 myyraa or NOSTRVM)

In the case of Old G, it would be absolutely shocking if they fail to qualify. Three of the five players on this team are former OG members and two times TI winners. The other two are also highly successful Dota 2 players who used to compete for some of the best teams in the world.

The skill difference between Sebastien “Ceb” Deb’s team and the other participants is not just a mere 10% or 20%. It’s something like 200%. And the best-of-three match format guarantees that nobody is going to be strong enough to eliminate them. Because you simply cannot win against a team like this twice.

As for Monaspa, they too are really strong because they have former Major finalists like Giorgios “SsaSpartan” Giannakopoulos. The other players are also very strong. The most famous of them is probably Irakli “W1sh” Peranidze, who used to play for Brame.

If everything goes according to plan, the most interesting match of the tournament will be the one between Old G and Monaspa. Even though they haven’t had much time to train together, Old G should easily win this battle. If they do, WEU’s Division II will be very exciting.

Some really strong teams are already waiting there. Fortunately for Nigma Galaxy, they will not have to compete against Ceb’s team in Tour 1 of DPC 2023 because they were offered a spot in Division I. This means that Old G, if they qualify, will most likely play in Division I as well in Tour 2.
