The Group Stage of the LEC Spring Split 2023 has concluded, and MAD Lions and G2 Esports secured their ticket to the playoffs. In the elimination match of Group A and B, MAD Lions crushed Astralis 2-0, while G2 Esports sent KOI home with a 1-2 score.

Right now, only four teams are left alive in the remainder of the Spring Split, and one of them will be the privileged one to lift the champions trophy of this exciting tournament. In the next few hours, we will know who will be the first finalist of the Split when Team Vitality and Team BDS play the Upper Bracket final match. However, the rest of the playoff matches will be played next weekend.

MAD Lions crush Astralis to qualify for playoffs

An extremely difficult season for MAD Lions is being crowned with a spectacular comeback. After struggling to qualify for the Group Stage in the regular season, the Winter Split runners-up crushed Astralis to advance to the playoffs. Astralis had shown a spectacular performance during these first four months of the year, and, undoubtedly, this crushing victory by the Spanish team no one saw coming.

In this match, we witnessed how MAD Lios always crushed Astralis. With this, the Lions overcame two elimination rounds to seal their ticket to the playoffs. In this series, we again saw an exceptional level of play from Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer and Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság. However, this time it was the Belgian who took the MVP award. The Lions’ Mid Laner finished the series with a spectacular 18/2/32 record, with Annie and Ahri, in the first and second games, respectively.

The truth is that Astralis could not do much with this renewed version of MAD Lions. The Danish team showed spectacular play throughout the Split but ran out of gas in this elimination game. In addition, we can highlight that, in this match, they also had good moments, as Kasper “Kobbe” Kobberup even made a Pentakill, but this was not enough, and they ended up losing by 0-2.

G2 Esports cuts KOI’s dream with a reverse sweep

After MAD Lions wrote their name in the playoffs, we were left to know the team they would face in the playoffs. At that moment, KOI and G2 Esports were the protagonists of three spectacular matches, which ended with a 1-2 victory for G2 thanks to a reverse sweep.

Although the Spanish team started the series with an excellent victory, G2 Esports reacted immediately, and with a great deal of solvency, they could turn the score around. In the second match, with KOI inspired after winning the first one, Rasmus “Caps” Winther made his presence felt in the Mid Lane with Sejuani to crush KOI throughout the match and even the score 1-1.

Also, it is worth mentioning the performance of Martin “Yike” Sundelin, who, again with Bel’Veth, gave very good results to G2 in Summoner’s Rift.

Finally, in the series’ last game, Steven “Hans sama” Liv dressed as a hero to lead his team to victory. The Frenchman finished the game with a record of 8/0/4 playing Jinx, and thus came the second and final victory for G2 in the series.

Now, MAD Lions and G2 Esports will fight to advance to the Lower Bracket final, where the loser of the match between Team Vitality and Team BDS will be waiting for them.
