Changes in the CDL for Major III

As the days go by, we are getting closer to the start of the Qualifiers for the CDL Major III 2023. In the last few hours, the official Call of Duty League account announced changes to the ruleset for the upcoming competitions.

The Call of Duty League has restricted some of the most powerful items in the game ahead of the Qualifiers for Major III being played this weekend. Let’s examine what these significant changes to the ruleset are.

CDL rule changes for Major III 2023

The Call of Duty League has decided to align its competition rules with the release of Modern Warfare 2 Ranked mode, which is the title the pros are playing in the CDL. As a result, some of the most powerful items on the restricted list have been added to the ruleset, including one of CoD’s most iconic and influential tactics.

As we have learned from different statements, all CoD players have an unwritten pact, which they consider to be a “gentleman’s pact” currently. This pact is about the blinding grenades, as they agreed not to use them in competitive games since the season started two months ago. But now, the CDL has decided to make this rule official, and players will not be able to use them in qualifying games either.

This change in the rule set by the CDL comes with patch 1.3 of the regulations, which also includes several items of the so-called “gentlemen’s agreement” in the list of restrictions.

Moreover, weapons such as the M4, Kastov-74u, STB 556, Fennec 45, and the P890, .50 GS, Basilisk, and X13 Auto pistols are now on the list of restricted weapons in ranked matches. While the equipment has been restricted, we have the smoke grenade and the bore charge.

What is the CDL looking for with these changes?

The Call of Duty league was looking for these changes to the ruleset to create a balance or uniformity between the CDL and ranked matches that players play. All of this is in an attempt to recreate the experience as best as possible, with the help of the pacts players make between players with their own internal rules.

Many may wonder why they decided to restrict some elements of the game instead of completely eliminating them from the game. But first, remember that playing qualifying and competitive games is not the same as playing casual games in multiplayer mode. In the latter, you can use everything available in the game from day 1.

The online qualifiers for the CDL Major III 2023 start next February 17, 2023. The match that will kick off this phase will be between Los Angeles Thieves and Las Vegas Legion. On the other hand, remember that the second season of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 arrives today.
