CS:GO Majors take place just twice per year, which means that it’s a great privilege for a company to organize such an event. In total, there are around five firms that have the necessary capabilities to organize a Major: ESL, PGL, BLAST, Perfect World, and Relog Media.

In recent years, ESL and PGL were the only ones that received the rights to organize CS:GO Majors. But in May this year, Valve openly invited all organizers to send proposals for the 2023 CS:GO Majors. And BLAST was one of them.

Fast forward to September and it’s now official that the organizer of the famous BLAST Premier circuit will host one of the two CS:GO Majors in 2023. The location is a very exciting one: Paris!

BLAST’s experience with big events

BLAST is a Danish company with more than 50 employees that was founded in 2016. Its best product is BLAST Premier, which is a yearly circuit that includes seven amazing tournaments:

  • Spring Groups
  • Spring Showdown
  • Spring Finals
  • Fall Groups
  • Fall Showdown
  • Fall Finals
  • World Final

The last of these tournaments, BLAST Premier World Final, offers $1 million in prizes. So BLAST has good experience with organizing epic CS:GO events. The only thing that’s in question is their ability to scale up their formula and make it work for a Major.

BLAST’s experience is with tournaments that feature 8-12 teams. Meanwhile, a CS:GO Major features 24 teams. Another issue is that BLAST events usually last for five days, while a CS:GO Major lasts for several weeks.

If the company finds the right formula, the CS:GO Major that they will organize in Paris will be a huge success. BLAST’s events are always fun to watch and are very well made, so there’s no concern at all about the quality as long as the company manages to maintain the same quality on a larger scale.

Other Organizers

The two other companies that organized CS:GO Majors in recent years were ESL and PGL. ESL did a very good job each time, while PGL still needs to optimize its process.

PGL

In particular, the talent who worked on PGL events complained about the daily hours of work and the fact that they were sleep deprived for the entire duration of the tournaments, which made the process very unpleasant for them. This happened not only at CS:GO Majors but also at Dota 2 events, such as The International.

Hopefully, BLAST will learn something from the successes and mistakes of other tournament organizers and give us an amazing CS:GO Major next year. Given the popularity of CS:GO in France, Paris is a perfect city for an event of this importance.
