Yesterday saw the conclusion PUBG Nations Cup 2022, the first PUBG championship between national teams since 2019. Following three days of PUBG action, Great Britain’s team emerged victorious, followed by Vietnam and Brazil.
PUBG Nations Cup 2022 featured 16 squads with well-known PUBG players from all over the world, representing their countries in a fight for $500,000 in prize money.

The tournament was held from June 16 to 19 in Bangkok, Thailand at TRUE ICON HALL ICONSIAM venue. All participating teams except the Chinese one flew to Bangkok to perform at the event in person. Meanwhile, the representatives of China couldn’t leave the country because of its current Coronavirus restrictions. As a result, the team performed from their home country in an online setting.

Apart from China’s semi-absence, Russia, the winner of the 2019’s championship, wasn’t invited at all because of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and the following economic and cultural isolation of the country, as well as travel restrictions. The situation is undoubtedly a step back for the whole PUBG ecosystem in the CIS region, as this is likely not the last case when the Russian team was cancelled.

In total, 64 players participated in the competition. They were selected based on various criteria in each region, for example, the overall performance in the last regional tournament or MVP title.

Here’s the list of countries that competed in the event:

  • Americas (United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina)
  • Europe (United Kingdom, Finland, Germany, Turkey)
  • Asia (Korea, China, Japan, Chinese Taipei)
  • Asia-Pacific (Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia)

PNC 2022 was the first event that featured the new tie-breaker system named S.U.P.E.R. (Standard and Universal PUBG Esports Ruleset) Global Point rule. According to the ruleset, players get one point per kill, ten points for a first-place finish, six for the second place, five for third place, four for fourth, three for fifth, two for sixth, and one for both seventh and eighth place during one round.

Great Britain victorious

While many PUBG fans made their bets on Asian teams, United Kingdom representatives claimed the first place with 203 points. The second spot went to Vietnam with 177 points.

The result of the PUBG Nations Cup 2022 is a surprise, given that in the previous PNC back in 2019, UK finished one spot above the last place. This year, the country was represented by Christopher “Fexx” Wheddon (FaZe Clan), Alex “vard” Gouge (Team Liquid), Luke “TeaBone” Crafer (Heroic) and Michael “mykLe” Wake with Justin “MiracU” McNally from XPLDZ.

The brawl between the national teams has drawn the attention of the PUBG community and the event became the fifth most popular esports competition in the game’s history with 239,112 Peak Viewers, according to Esports Charts analytical agency.
