After week one, or Super Week of the VCT EMEA League 2023, we got a taste of what the rest of the tournament will be like, with many teams showing spectacular potential while others left much to be desired. Nevertheless, all teams except for BBL Esports and Giants managed to score, even if it was only a victory in this first week.

On the other hand, Fnatic and Team Vitality showed why they have the label of favorites in this first edition of the VCT EMEA League 2023 by winning their first two matches convincingly. Finally, the rest of the six teams from the VCT EMEA region finished with a 1-1 record, and there is no doubt that they left with a good taste in their mouths.

From now on, the schedule is reduced to only five games per week, meaning that each team will play only once, so they will have plenty of time to prepare for what lies ahead.

Recap of day 4 of Super Week

Fnatic prevail with a reverse sweep over BBL Esport

Reigning VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023 champions and heavy favorites to win this VCT EMEA League 2023, Fnatic were surprised by BBL Esports on this final day of Super Week. However, they applied a reverse sweep and took the victory 2-1.

Ascent (BBL Esports), Haven (Fnatic), and Split (decider) were the venues for this series between these two teams.

Ascent

BBL Esports surprised everyone by showing total aggressiveness on the attacking side in the first half of Ascent against Fnatic. Doğukan “QutionerX” Dural (241 ADR, 379 ACS, and 1.50 Rating) carried BBL Esports in a massacre against Fnatic that ended with a 9-3 score in the first half.

Fnatic tried to recover a little from this blow by winning three rounds at the change of sides, but it was not enough, and BBL ended up taking an excellent victory 13-6. With this, Fnatic lost their first map in this VCT EMEA League 2023.

Haven

In Haven, Fnatic could give a blow on the table and take a 13-9 victory. However, it was not as easy as they expected, as the Turks put up quite a fight, but this time on the defensive side.

In the first half, Fnatic, led by Maks “kamyk” Rychlewski (142 ADR, 243 ACS, and 1.19 Rating), took a comfortable partial victory with a score of 8-4. However, BBL Esports woke up immediately at the change of sides and managed to put the map 11-8, causing alarm bells to go off in the orange squad.

Finally, Fnatic managed to get around BBL Esports’ defense and won the remaining two rounds to send the series to the third and decisive map.

Split

The decisive map, Split, was much more intense than the other two, and the Turks proved once again that, despite having two losses right now, they are a strong team going for it in this VCT EMEA League.

In the first half, we had several intense battles between Leo “Leo” Jannesson (Fnatic) and Ali “AsLanM4shadoW” Balta, so much so that neither team could take advantage, and the score ended with an extraordinary 6-6.

We enjoyed another tireless fight between these two teams in the second half. Fnatic started very strong winning the first four rounds on the defensive side; BBL Esports woke up and responded to make the score 11-11.

Finally, in two really intense rounds, Fnatic could do their homework and take the victory with a score of 13-11.

Team Heretics crushes KCorp and gets their first win of the tournament

After many mistakes in their first presentation in this VCT EMEA League, Team Heretics showed a completely different face in the second match against KCorp and took a resounding victory with a 2-0.

Icebox (Team Heretics) and Split (KCorp) were the selected venues for this series between TH and KCorp.

Icebox

The Spanish team, led by Frenchman Wassim “keloqz” Cista, started Icebox on the attacking side, deciphering all the defenses that KCorp established. As a result, the Spaniards looked far superior to KCorp from the beginning of the map and achieved a 9-3 partial victory.

In the change of sides, we saw more of the same, as KCorp managed to secure two rounds after winning the pistol round, but then they were stopped by Team Heretics, which was inspired in this match. In the end, the Spaniards took a crushing 13-5 victory.

Split

We all thought the series would be completely different in the KCorp map pick, but we were not far from the truth. Team Heretics continued to be completely inspired in this series and managed to sink the French much more with a crushing 13-2 win.

Keloqz (210 ADR, 382 ACS, and 1.69 Rating) and Poland’s Aleksander “zeek” Zygmunt (191 ADR, 293 ACS, and 1.68 Rating), were responsible for delivering the second blow to a KCorp that was completely lost in this series.

Karmine Corp only won two rounds on the attacking side in their map pick, and, during the whole series, they were completely inferior to a Spanish team, and everything went perfectly.

The VCT EMEA League action returns next Wednesday, April 5, 2023, with the match between Team Vitality and FUT Esports.
