While many organizations are used to making changes after the end of tournaments or seasons, others are forced to do so unexpectedly. This time, EXCEL Esports, one of the LEC teams, announced the departure of Vetheo from the team’s starting lineup.

This move comes just hours before the third week of the LEC Spring Split, where EXCEL Esports plays for its life in the last three games to qualify for the Group Stage.

EXCEL Esports announces lineup changes

In the last hours, EXCEL Esports announced a change in its starting lineup for the LEC Spring Split for the third week on its Twitter account. It is the departure of Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié, who decides to leave the team to take care of his mental health and, in his place, will enter Felix “Abbedagge” Braun.

Vetheo is one of the youngsters who showed spectacular development in the LEC in the last two years, specifically since his start with Misfits Gaming in 2021. However, Vetheo posted a message on his Twitter account where he points out that he has suffered from depression since the Winter Split and feels he doesn’t know how to get better if not by winning.

As mentioned, Abbedagge, who has held the backup position at EXCEL since the beginning of 2023, will be the one to fill the spot left by Vetheo in the main lineup. Abbedagge has not officially seen action in the League of Legends competitive scene for several months, having last played under the 100 Thieves banner in the LCS in 2022.

About Abbedagge

Let’s recall that Abbedagge was one of the mainstays of 100 Thieves in the 2021/2022 seasons. The 23-year-old led the popular North American organization to the top and helped them win the LCS title. After that, however, 100 Thieves decided to replace him with legend Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. From that moment on, the player has not managed to be part of a starting lineup in any other team.

As we mentioned, this change comes at a crucial stage for EXCEL Esports, as they are playing for their lives in the last three games of the regular phase, and facing it with a substitute can be very complicated. However, we all know Abbedagge’s capabilities, so we can’t be surprised that the player will quickly fit into the team and can contribute a lot to it.

This sudden return to the scene by Abbedagge may put a lot of pressure on the player, as it is very likely that the team will depend on him to get the qualification. On the other hand, it should be noted that Vetheo was one of the team’s best players, and replacing him is certainly not easy.

Abbedagge has to use his experience to deploy his teammates in the Summoner’s Rift and hurt their opponents. Whether or not he can fit in, the player must play for his team and help them get the three victories that will help them finish in the top eight and thus qualify for the Group Stage.

Let’s remember that EXCEL Esports finished in last place in the regular phase of the Winter Split, and if they don’t have an awakening in this third week, they could suffer the same fate. The remaining matches for EXCEL are against KOI, Astralis, and Team BDS.
