Riot Games announced that WORLDS 2023 will take place in South Korea and the potential locations have been shortlisted. Along with locations, Riot has also mentioned the timeline and information about tickets.

South Korea continues to cement its status as a premier esports destination, with WORLDS 2023 set to take place there, following the VCT Pacific League. This will not be the first time that S. Korea hosting the WORLDS, having previously done so in 2018 and 2014 across multiple cities. The country has also been home to other prestigious esports events such as MSI 2018. Fans can anticipate an unforgettable esports experience in this thriving industry hub.

WORLDS 2023: Details about the venues

Before discussing venues it would be better to know the participating cities. As LoL Esports’ official blog mentions the 2023 edition will commence in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, then it will travel to Busan. Furthermore, for the final, it will again return to Seoul. Now, talking about the venues:

  • LoL Park in Seoul
  • KBS Arena in Seoul
  • Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan
  • Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul

The Gocheok Sky Dome location in Seoul will host the grand finals of the League of Legends worlds championship 2023. This impressive venue is the largest stadium in the country, boasting a seating capacity of up to 25,000 spectators.

Format and important dates

This year’s LoL esports format has seen significant changes. World Championship Play-Ins now use two double-elimination brackets featuring 22 teams. Each bracket will provide the two best teams that will have the opportunity to compete for two slots in the Main Event. The Swiss bracket replaces the previous 16-team group stage.

To make it simpler, the entire tournament has been divided into 3 stages: Play-ins, Swiss stage, and Knockouts. Now, talking about important timelines:

  • The Play-In Stage (October 10 to October 15 at LoL Park)
  • There will be a Swiss Stage (October 19 to October 23, and from October 26 to October 29 at KBS Arena)
  • The quarterfinals (November 2 to November 5 at Sajik Indoor Gymnasium)
  • The semifinals (November 11 and November 12 at Sajik Indoor Gymnasium)
  • The finals (November 19 at Gocheok SkyDome in Seoul)

Tickets information

For those eagerly awaiting the chance to purchase tickets to Worlds 2023, there is good news: tickets will be available for purchase in three waves. The first wave of ticket sales will begin on July 10 and will be for the Play-In Stage of the competition. The second wave of ticket sales will commence on July 19 and will be for the Swiss Stage. The final wave of ticket sales will begin on August 2 and will be for the Knockout Stage. Fans should take note of the dates to ensure they secure their desired tickets and do not miss out on any exciting moments of the tournament.
