The well-known games and media trade show E3 in Los Angeles has been completely canceled for 2022. For a long time, there were rumors about an online version of the trade show, but it looks like that has been canceled as well. However, E3 is scheduled to take place again next year.

Convention will take place again next year

For game fans around the world, E3 is an absolute highlight and one of the most well-known media events where fans can find out about new content and new games. The ESA announced that E3 would probably have to be canceled back in January. That had mostly to do with the Omikron virus.

Now the organization has confirmed that the 2022 game show will not take place in any form – not even online. ESA is traditionally held in L.A. every June. However, ESA said the cancellation isn’t the end of the world and instead stressed that a year off could actually have a positive effect, as they plan to revamp the event in the future. Next year, E3 is set to become a hybrid event.

In a statement, they said, “We will devote all of our energy and resources to revitalizing E3 both physically and digitally next summer. Whether you enjoy the event on the show floor or on your favorite devices, E3 2023 will bring the community, media and industry back together in an entirely new format and interactive experience.”

It went on to say, “Our members expect ESA to deliver an experience that reinvigorates the event in a new and exciting way. That’s why we’re using this time to make plans for 2023 and working with our members to ensure the revitalized Showcase sets a new standard for hybrid industry events and fan engagement.”

E3 Online Event Canceled

In 2021, there was only a small online version of E3; in 2020, it was cancelled entirely due to Corona. But even before the pandemic, the show had to downsize. In 2006, it was downsized significantly for the first time.

Will Power, the Razer PR Lead announced via Twitter that he reportedly received an email saying that E3, including online version, was completely cancelled. On March 10, there were still rumors that the show would be held online, but Jeff Grubb came forward just a few days later, on January 16, to say that E3 would definitely not take place this year. In the meantime, reports are piling up that the trade show will not take place online either, and has thus been completely canceled. However, there has not been an official statement yet.
