The second competitive week of the LEC Summer saw 10 beautiful League of Legends matches with results that were not predicted by the pundits.

There’s one underdog that continues to impress everyone along with several top teams whose performance is inconsistent. The battle for the top six positions looks a bit predictable right now, but things might change a lot in the coming weeks.

First-day results

Each of the two competitive days of the second week of LEC Summer had five matches. The results of the Day 1 were as follows:

  • SK Gaming vs. Astralis: 0 – 1
  • Excel Esports vs. Vitality: 1 – 0
  • Misfits vs. Rogue: 0 – 1
  • G2 vs. BDS: 0 – 1
  • Fnatic vs. MAD Lions: 0 – 1

Arguably, three of these five games ended with an upset. Perhaps the biggest upset of the day was registered in the match between G2 and BDS. Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski’s team was leading in the rankings table while BDS had zero victories and looked quite weak.

However, one bad mistake made by G2 in the laning phase resulted in a huge networth advantage for BDS. Although G2 recovered along the way, that one mistake allowed BDS’ lineup to reach a favourable end game. And then, one more team fight error committed by Rasmus “caPs” Borregaard led to a totally unexpected defeat.

Meanwhile, Excel Esports continued to thrive, overwhelming Vitality with talented players such as Luka “Perkz” Perkovic and Kang “Haru” Min-seung.

Second-day results

The results of the Day 2 were as follows:

  • Misfits vs. SK Gaming: 1 – 0
  • Excel Esports vs. MAD Lions: 1 – 0
  • Rogue vs. Astralis: 1 – 0
  • Fnatic vs. BDS: 1 – 0
  • Vitality vs. G2 Esports: 0 – 1

Day two saw only a single upset, which at this point should no longer be considered an upset. After all, Excel Esports have won four of their first five matches and the teams they defeated are strong enough for their victories to mean something.

Fnatic, Vitality, and MAD are competitors whose goal is at least playoff participation, and Excel defeated all of them. The only problem going forward will be the bans. When a team wins with a champion in three of four successful matches, their future opponents are likely to ban that champion and force them to leave your comfort zone.

One more team worth mentioning is Rogue. Based on their performance in Week 2, it seems that the squad is slowly recovering and their current position in the rankings table starts to look a lot more like the one from the Spring split.

The teams will be back for the third week of the LEC action on July 1-2, starting with a game of Team BDS against Misfits Gaming at 6 pm CEST.
