Days go by, and we are still not sure when CS2 will be officially released worldwide. However, Valve continues to release updates left and right to the game’s limited test, to which very few players in the world still have access.
Valve introduced two new maps to this rotation in the latest last July 17, 2023 update. These are Overpass and Vertigo, two of the most played maps in the CS:GO competitive scene, available to play in the CS2 limited test.
There is no doubt that this news is really exciting for the whole community that is looking forward to the game’s official release. However, it is worth noting that the new Overpass is mind-blowing, while Vertigo seems unchanged.
Valve introduce Overpass and Vertigo to CS2
The hype for CS2 in the community is growing, and, following the game’s new update, Valve ramped it up by introducing Vertigo and Overpass to the game for the first time. Undoubtedly, these two maps are very popular, so many fans and players were eager to see how they would arrive under the new Source 2 engine.
We are excited to ship our first overhauled map into the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test, de_overpass, alongside de_vertigo. Vertigo is playable Casual and Deathmatch modes. Overpass is available to play in Casual, Deathmatch, Competitive, and Wingman (new!).

As we can see, Overpass is available to play in Casual, Deathmatch, Competitive, and Wingman game modes. While on the other hand, Vertigo will only be available, for now, in Casual and Deathmatch modes.
All those lucky enough to have access to this closed beta of the game are already showing videos about the maps. Also, we reiterate our comment that the new Overpass is mind-blowing, with spectacular graphics and impressive mechanics.

A total renovation of Overpass
In Overpass, we can observe what will arrive in the game at its worldwide release. This map has all the new features of Source 2 that make CS2 a game with much realism.
Valve said the map was built from 0 based on the existing one in CS:GO. However, they used all the tools and features the new Source 2 engine has to render and create a beautiful map.
In addition, the colors, lighting, map dynamics, and changes to some surfaces, such as, for example, Long A, make this, so far, the best map released for CS2.

Vertigo remains virtually unchanged
On the other hand, Vertigo continues to be a map hated by many and loved by others. In this “new Vertigo” of CS2, we don’t see noticeable changes as in Overpass.
Vertigo had some updates regarding the lighting and shadows of the map; that is, the rest of the map remained practically the same as in CS:GO. However, according to Valve, these changes are important in the competitive arena so that players have a better environment and, above all, it is “visually more immersive.”

Upcoming maps that could be coming to CS2
We have enjoyed Dust 2, Nuke, Mirage, Vertigo, Overpass, and Office as maps in CS2. This means that we have yet to see the new face of Ancient Anubis and the iconic Inferno, but according to leaks in recent weeks, Inferno could receive updates like Overpass, so we can expect a map treat.
On the other hand, both Anubis and Ancient are currently maps categorized as “upgrades,” meaning, it could happen as with Vertigo, with lighting and shadow updates to improve the game’s look.
