In the Round of 12, ESL Pro League S19 featured four exciting matches. All of them proved to be challenging for both sides. One had an epic comeback and one had a delightful revenge. I will analyze all of them below.

3DMAX vs. G2 Esports: 1 – 2

On paper, 3DMAX looked completely hopeless against G2. Some of their players are well known but none of them is a superstar or even a top 20 candidate. With nobody to save the team in a tough situation, there was little doubt in people’s mind that G2 would obliterate them.

In reality, however, the match needed three maps to conclude and the scores were 10 – 13, 13 – 7, and 6 – 13. On two of the tree maps, the battle was close. In the end, thanks to NiKo and m0NESY, G2 won.

The MongolZ vs. Virtus.pro: 1 – 2

The MongolZ looked more than capable of beating VP in this match. Based on what we had seen throughout the tournament and at the Copenhagen Major, The MongolZ were as strong or even stronger than their Russian opponents.

In the match, we immediately felt their strength when they won the first half of Overpass 9 – 3. The final score was 13 – 11 and this would become problematic on the third map. For some reason, after building a huge lead, The MongolZ lose their ability to focus and start losing important rounds.

On Ancient, they had a ridiculous advantage after the first half: 10 – 2. But despite this advantage, they ended up losing the map 11 – 13, as well as the match. No doubt, this defeat must have been painful.

The two players who saved VP were Jame and fame. ElectroNic also played well, but he was not as good as usual.

Team Liquid vs. FlyQuest: 2 – 1

Team Liquid were not supposed to lose against this opponent and they didn’t. But the way they won the match should worry fans ahead of their next match, against a much tougher opponent. If FlyQuest managed to beat them on Anubis 14 – 16 and win 10 rounds on the other two maps, Astralis will likely beat them with ease.

Nevertheless, Liquid’s performance was good enough to help them secure a top eight result. Gradually, this roster could become one of the top five again. And even though the odds are small, Liquid might finish ESL Pro League S19 in the top four by beating Astralis.

Natus Vincere vs. FaZe Clan: 0 – 2

This was a rematch of the Copenhagen Major Grand Final. On the first map, picked by FaZe, the score was 5 – 13 in their favor.

The second map was much more dramatic. Na’Vi lost the first half 4 – 8 but forced overtime after the second half. In the end, they lost 14 – 16 largely because four FaZe players had an amazing performance while Na’Vi’s carry players were shut down. When your IGL has the highest rating, you’re doing something wrong.
