100 Thieves dismiss ec1s & BabyJ after 0:13 defeat

Ex-FaZe Clan member Hunter “BabyJ” Schline and in-game leader Adam “ec1s” Eccles haven’t been with the 100 Thieves too long – and have already been fired. The reason was the team’s abysmal performance in the first weeks at VCT NA Challengers 1.

Dropped again after only 40 days

About a month ago the line-up for 2022 was announced. In it, BabyJ and ec1s were supposed to join longtime members Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk, Spencer “Hiko” Martin and Ethan “Ethan” Arnold. But it looks like that combination didn’t last long. BabyJ and ec1s had originally taken over the roles of Nicholas “nitr0” Cannella and Joshua “steel” Nissan.

Nitr0 and the 100 Thieves parted ways by mutual agreement so he could return to CS:GO and Team Liquid, while the organization benched steel just before the NA LCQ kicked off and then fired him. Both BabyJ and ec1s joined the 100 Thieves lineup about 40 days ago. During the NA VCT Challengers One Main Event, the duo only played two official matches with the Thieves.

Big disappointment in the match against The Guard

Things didn’t go very gloriously for the 100 Thieves during the NA VCT Challengers One Main Event. They lost both matches, first against Cloud9 and then against The Guard. The match against The Guard ended with an epic loss of 0:13 on Ascent. 100 Thieves CEO Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag posted on Twitter that the team’s performance was “unacceptable” after the game.

The fact that the two VALORANT players were slam-dunked outright because of this came as a huge surprise to fans, as BabyJ and ec1s had only had a few weeks to train. “This is a disappointing result, but one to be expected,” ec1s said. “Our chemistry on the server was not right and it is better to deal with it and move on. I love all the players and wish them the best as they move forward this season. It’s time to reflect on the past and improve.”

Nadeshot had this to say on the matter, “I never, under any circumstances, want to bring about a situation where player involvement in our organization is as short-lived as it is in this case.” Nevertheless, he mentioned that the decision was necessary to get the best out of the team.

Replacement already in place

The 100 Thieves will play Sean “bang” Bezerra and Noah “jcStani” Smith in upcoming games in NA VCT. The two come on loan from TSM and the Pioneers, respectively, and are expected to help out the 100 Thieves for the time being.

The lineup for the 100 Thieves is currently as follows:

  • Spencer “Hiko” Martin
  • Sean “bang” Bezerra
  • Ethan “Ethan” Arnold
  • Peter “Asuna” Mazuryk
  • Noah “jcStani” Smith
