Day 1 of PGL Wallachia Season 1 featured eight exciting matches. Most of them ended with a 2 – 0 result for the favorite but there were a few upsets and highly disputed matches as well.
Aurora vs. MOUZ: 2 – 1

Aurora started this match with a huge experience advantage. On top of that, they also have one of the best players in the world (23) and an amazing captain (Jabz). Under these conditions, nobody expected MOUZ to win this match, not even their most optimistic fans. The only hope was that MOUZ would win a game and give Aurora a run for their money, which they did.
Azure Ray vs. nouns: 1 – 2
Azure Ray were supposed to defeat nouns with ease but Fly and his team came very well prepared to this tournament and proved to have extraordinary patience. In the third game of the series, despite having an 11.000 gold lead at the 36-minute mark, they spent another hour sieging Azure’s base and only ended the battle when the opportunity was offered to them.
BetBoom Team vs. Shopify Rebellion: 2 – 0

BetBoom struggled a lot more than we expected against Arteezy’s team. The games lasted 48 and 54 minutes respectively. Both times, BetBoom picked Tiny and Bane, while Shopify picked Pangolier. The two teams had very different ideas and did their best to implement them.
Shopify came close to winning game 2 and had a 16.000 gold lead at the 38-minute mark. But because of BetBoom’s Faceless Void plus Sniper combo, they ended up getting destroyed in the next five minutes.
Xtreme Gaming vs. BOOM Esports: 2 – 0
Xtreme Gaming were expected to win with ease against this opponent and they did. Their only double-pick was Marci. In game one, they went with Sniper and Slardar, while in game 2 they picked Juggernaut and Bloodseeker. We rarely see Juggernaut and BS these days, but the Chinese crew made excellent use of them.
Team Spirit vs. Virtus.pro: 2 – 0
Team Spirit proved in this match that despite their recent failings, they’re still one of the world’s best teams and will not lose against far weaker opponents. Like other teams at PGL Wallachia Season 1, they made good use of heroes like Sniper, Doom, Mars, and Razor. Game 1 lasted 36 minutes while game 2 was over only after 50.
Team Liquid vs. G2.iG: 2 – 0
Team Liquid were supposed to have a tough time against G2.iG but they ended up winning more easily than we thought they would. They chose to use Ember, Doom, Weaver, and Luna, proving that they care about their own play style more than about the meta. G2 tried to stop them with Kunkka and Techies but failed.
In both games, the battle was even until the 20-minute mark. After that point, Liquid’s brilliant decisions resulted in a massive lead that could not be undone.
Team Falcons vs. HEROIC: 2 – 0

Team Falcons started this match with a stand-in. Malr1ne couldn’t get his visa and was replaced by Nine, who is currently teamless. Despite this massive inconvenience, Falcons defeated HEROIC without any problems and dominated both games from start to finish.
As usual, they picked the heroes that are most comfortable for ATF and skiter. Both of them played well and their individual prowess was sufficient to bring Falcons the victory.
Gaimin Gladiators vs. Team Secret: 2 – 0
It’s been a long time since we last saw Team Secret succeeding against an opponent of GG’s caliber, so nobody expected them to win this match. The games were short, lasting just 36 and 33 minutes respectively. Secret tried to play standard drafts for this meta but were heavily countered in every way.
Gladiators responded to Zeus, Luna, Batrider, Kunkka, and Gyrocopter with heroes like Brewmaster, Faceless Void, Clinkz, and Leshrac.
Upcoming Matches
In the second round of PGL Wallachia S1, the most exciting matches will be these:
- Team Liquid vs. Xtreme Gaming
- Team Falcons vs. nouns
- Gaimin Gladiators vs. Team Spirit
- iG vs. Team Secret
In the 1 W – 0 L category, the winners will be one step away from qualifying for the playoffs of the tournament. The first and third matches on the list above will be the most disputed. However, the other two should also be fun to watch because of their legendary players.
The meta is a bit stale at this point and everyone is waiting for IceFrog to release Dota 2 patch 7.36. It might take a while longer to see what the next big iteration of the game will look like. Hopefully, it will give us a fresh experience and get released before the end of this upcoming Summer.
Crownfall is not even close to being a completely satisfying experience. The community wants more and everyone can still remember just how excited we were after the radical map changes that were presented a few big patches ago.
