Spectre is now the highest win rate hero in Dota 2

Spectre has had her ups and downs over the years. During certain patches, she was a phenomenal carry hero and everyone wanted to pick Spectre as fast as possible into the draft. On other patches, barely anyone picked this hero and regarded her as an auto-lose.

Now we seem to be back to the good old days. With a pick rate of nearly 13% and a win rate of 56.18%, Spectre is an exceptionally strong carry that can easily win games if left unchallenged during the laning stage.

What makes Spectre so strong

Spectre’s rise to popularity over the last few patches was a result of both the hero changes and the item changes. Although, to be fair, it was more the item changes that made Spectre a huge success.

The last Dota 2 patch, 7.32, significantly nerfed the hero’s intelligence gain per level and even decreased her Spectral Dagger damage a bit. But the other changes turned Spectre into a monster. You can now buy a cheap Radiance that is incredibly strong, as well as a Blade Mail that makes everyone on the enemy team unable to target you for 5.5s.

In addition to that, Blade Mail now returns 20 + 20% damage passively, which means that you don’t even need to use its active anymore. When combined with Spectre’s natural abilities, such as Dispersion, it creates a completely unbalanced item build that is guaranteed to win pubs with ease.

People cannot understand why IceFrog allows such broken heroes to crush the meta without addressing the issue in a subpatch. Even if Valve releases a patch specifically for Spectre, Clinkz, and a handful of other overpowered heroes, the community would be quite happy about it.

Because right now, lots of players are struggling to find a way to win against Spectre after the 25-minute mark. If you haven’t won the game by then, you’re likely to lose it in just one or two team fights.

The team that plays against Spectre needs to accumulate a big networth advantage to stand a chance. And it also needs to end the game before the 30-minute mark. These two conditions are not easy to fulfill in pubs, which is why most teams fail against Spectre regardless of how strong or weak is the person who plays the hero.
