Having hit the headlines recently following his return to Twitch, Shroud is once again in the news after proclaiming that he has no intention of joining a professional VALORANT team. The former Cloud9 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive favourite has become one of the most popular Esports streamers over recent times, with his return to Twitch last week attracting some 500,000 viewers.

While the Canadian pleased fans by declaring that he would be happy to fill in for players as necessary, the 26-year-old veteran will not be making a permanent switch to VALORANT, the increasingly popular first-person shooter from Riot Games. Having been backed by many to announce which organisation he would be joining, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek announced on a recent stream that this would not be the case.

Why Shroud is Such a Big Deal in the Esports Industry

The former CS:GO pro, who won the ESL Pro League Season 4 – Finals, iBUYPOWER Cup and ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 – North America during his time with Cloud9, has become one of the leading streamers since his career move back in 2017. Ever since he hit the circuit in 2013, Shroud has attracted fans with his laid-back style, something which has transferred into his streaming. Performing well in almost any game in which he turns his hand to, with many having been surprised when he made his return to Twitch recently playing VALORANT.

Shroud now has around 80% of VALORANT’s total viewership, demonstrating just how highly he is regarded by supporters. However, a return to professional gaming is certainly not on the cards at present, even if VALORANT does seemingly suit his skills and playing style down to the ground. A host of well-known former CS:GO pros have already moved to VALORANT, however Shroud will not be jumping on the bandwagon.

Breaking the news on a recent stream, Shroud responded to a fan by stating: “Would you join 100 Thieves if they offered? No,” Would I join a team as a stand-in if they ever needed me? Sure. So let’s say Jimbo can’t play because of something, and they needed me, sure, I’ll fill I don’t care.”

What Next for Shroud?

While such news will have come as a disappointment to some, fans will be able to see Shroud on a regular basis on Twitch, a platform in which he attracted over half a million viewers upon his return last week. VALORANT looks set to go from strength to strength, however it remains to be seen as to whether this will provide Shroud with a change of heart regarding signing for a pro team.
