PGL Major Copenhagen stage 2: worst teams after day 1

After the first day of the second stage of PGL Major Copenhagen, four teams are already on the brink of elimination, having lost their first two matches. Two of them will leave the tournament today.

Among these four teams, there are two Brazilian squads: FURIA Esports and paiN Gaming. The other two competitors are The MongolZ and ECSTATIC.

Fortunately or unfortunately for the Brazilians, FURIA and paiN will not encounter each other in the third round. Both of them will get the chance to continue the race by defeating their opponents. But they could both easily get eliminated. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s hard to be optimistic about their chances.

ECSTATIC started the tournament with a close defeat against MOUZ (11 – 13), followed by a crushing defeat against Cloud9 (3 – 13).

In the first match, their performance was surprisingly good thanks to Patti, who finished with an individual score of 21 – 16. The rest of his teammates struggled to help him and could not do more against the world’s 4^th ranked team. For a team that’s ranked only 28^th globally, ECSTATIC did a fantastic job.

In the second match, Cloud9 dominated them from the beginning and they just didn’t have a good answer to what their opponents did. The battle took place on Overpass and C9 proved to be well-trained on this map. Two of their players finished the match with a rating 2.0 of 2+.

For paiN Gaming, both fights looked winnable. Their opponents were Complexity and Virtus.pro. In each case, they lost 9 – 13. The efforts of biguzera and kauez, who did a great job in the second match, were insufficient to give them victory.

The MongolZ’s task was impossible. They played against Natus Vincere and Team Vitality, two of the most accomplished teams of the last several years. Even without s1mple, Na’Vi are very tough to beat.

The MongolZ managed to put up a good fight, winning 10 rounds against the Ukrainians in the opening match and nine rounds against the French. But ultimately, they were overwhelmed by both opponents.

FURIA also had tough encounters. In the first match of the second stage of PGL Major Copenhagen, they lost 3 – 13 against G2 Esports. In the second match, FaZe Clan defeated them in a similar way: 7 – 13. Now they’re on the ropes again, just like they were in stage 1.
