MLBB: MDL Indonesia Season 10 to include women’s teams

Indonesia’s version of the MLBB Development League or MDL will soon feature the strongest ladies’ teams in their country – a groundbreaking move for women in MLBB esports.

In a press release from Moonton, the developer of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, there will be two slots for women’s teams to compete in MDL Indonesia’s season 10, to be selected from their WSL Season 8 and WSL Invitational 2024 tournaments. They add, “if the WSL Season 8 Champion succeeds in becoming the Indonesian-Team Top Rank Leaderboard in WSLI 2024, then the second highest Indonesian team in Rank Leaderboard will get the last slot leading to MDL ID Season 10.”

This move reflects the first official professional league where female teams will be allowed to play in a Moonton-organized tournament.

Moonton Esports Indonesia’s PR Manager Azwin Nugraha said these moves, while groundbreaking and trailblazing in nature, have always been reflective of the openness of MLBB to handle tournaments with diverse player backgrounds.

“From the beginning, MLBB Esports came with inclusiveness so it is not limited to anyone including our relatives who have special needs. Inclusivity is not only about gender equality, but it means that all audiences can participate and compete at different levels to realize their dreams,” Nugraha said in the same press release.

WSL’s head of event Krishna Aurora welcomed the initiation of MDL Indonesia, saying that this collaboration is a “solution for MLBB ladies players who often get little opportunity to improve skill sets or skills and competitive spirit.”

“This will be the first step for players ladies to be able to get new challenges and rise to the next level. besides that with the entry of the WSL team into the MDL arena will be a proving venue that women can also compete equally with men in the same scene,” Aurora added.

Indonesia is one of the premier countries for women’s MLBB, with Bigetron Era winning the MLBB Women’s Invitational or MWI 2022, as well as the national team winning the women’s MLBB division Gold Medal in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia last year.

MDL Indonesia Season 10 is expected to take place between the second and third quarters of 2024.
