Is EG going to exit Esport until the end of 2023?

There are currently some rumours surrounding the Evil Geniuses esports organization. The American organization is apparently planning to sell all of its esports lineups by the end of the year and reportedly wants to get out of esports completely.

The rumors about the Evil Geniuses coming to an end, are based on a report by Kevin Hitt, a Sports Business Journal journalist, who in turn got this information from sources close to him.

Apparently, the owner of the Evil Geniuses, Peak6, wants to part ways with all players by the end of the year. It would also be an option to sell the lineups as a unit, but so far that hasn’t happened and according to the report, the attempts have been unsuccessful.

These reports are surprising, but have been a long time coming, as the EG organization has been going downhill for some time – not with the players, but with everything around them.

The end of EG?

The Evil Geniuses had already withdrawn from Dota 2 some time ago and many fans were already thinking that this was just the beginning of the end and that a few other lineups might have to go. In the Fighting Games, they parted ways with Sonicfox and dekillsage.Two days ago, the news came that the Evil Geniuses would be leaving the League of Legends LCS.They were one of two teams that withdrew from the LCS after reports that the LCS would be cut. As a result, the tournament will now only consist of eight lineups instead of ten. The second team to leave were the Golden Guardians.

The esports organization’s salary scandal

The VALORANT lineup has been one of the Evil Geniuses’ most successful teams so far and has had some very prestigious successes recently, including winning the VALORANT Champions this year and finishing second at Masters Tokyo. Despite these gigantic successes, the community was horrified when they found out that the organization wanted to cut the lineup’s salary – and if they didn’t accept it, they would have to leave the team.

This story made waves and did not reflect well on the organization. The fans could not believe that the players would be punished by the organization after their great triumph and the reasons for this have not been clearly explained by EG to this day.

If the rumors are true, however, many more EG players will soon be on the street. However, the rumours of EG leaving esports have not yet been officially confirmed by the organization.
