Discord soon on PlayStation?

Good news for PlayStation users. Based on multiple different leaks in recent days, it seems that the launch of Discord and PlayStation integration might come very soon.

According to some data leakers, multiple files in the latest version of the Voice Chat application Discord refer to the integration with PlayStation. This suggests that the wait for PlayStation players to be able to enjoy this voice program will soon come to an end.

Launch date

Neither Sony nor Discord has confirmed when Discord will be added to PS5. However, some reports claim that voice integration could arrive on March 8, 2023, when version 7.00 of the program is expected to be released.

In May 2021, almost two years ago, it was announced that PlayStation Discord would join forces to allow friends to “communicate more easily while playing together.” It was said that this union would be launched in early 2022, but clearly, that was far from certain.

Leakers claim that the waiting time is coming to an end

According to PlayStation LifeStyle, which is data miners on GitHub, last January 4, 2023, the popular VoIP app, Discord, will be available for PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles very soon.

The report shows that several data strings on Discord now contain references to joining Discord calls and audio on PS5. For example, one of them explicitly states:

“We have new features for PS5 users – hang out with Discord friends while playing games in voice chat.”

The above write-up notes that the features are “for PS5 users,” suggesting that PS4 users may have been left out of this integration. However, other lines highlight that “certain features are only available on PS5”, which leads us to believe that some features could be available on the previous generation console.

As we can see in the image, Discord users can connect their accounts to their PlayStation 5 consoles, using the voice chat functions while playing any video game.

In addition, if we detail the different lines, we can find particular messages that say:

“Now you’re ready to join a call on your PS5”

 

“Connect PlayStation to Discord”

 

“Discord is now on PlayStation!”

And many more.

This partnership was formed in 2021. Shortly after, in January last year, Discord launched an update to allow users to link their PlayStation Network (PSN) account. This option remains in place, but it is only for logging into the app, not for use on consoles.
