The Legends Stage of IEM Rio Major is over and only eight teams are left in the race for one of the most prestigious CS:GO trophies of 2022.

So far, the tournament has been very painful to watch. A lot of fans have probably gone through the same experience – that of cheering for a team that gets eliminated and then hoping that your second favorite will not disappoint, only to find out a day later that they too were eliminated.

The teams that failed in the Legends Stage

No less than four of the tournament’s favorites will miss the Champions Stage of IEM Rio Major.

FaZe Clan were the first to fall. They first encountered Cloud9, who went on to finish the Legends Stage with three consecutive victories. Then they ran into Team Vitality, whose top player, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, was in top form.

And in the final match, demoralized from the first two defeats, FaZe failed against Bad News Eagles, a team they should have bested with ease.

The second team that was eliminated after suffering three consecutive losses is Ninjas in Pyjamas. Their journey was supposed to be much easier than FaZe Clan’s, but they still lost every match. Their opponents were Fnatic, Outsiders, and Sprout.

Immediately after the elimination of FaZe and NiP, Vitality were sent home by ENCE. In their first three matches, the French had lost against Natus Vincere and MOUZ, and had won against FaZe.

In the last round of the Legends Stage, it was time for Team Liquid to disappoint.  Despite Mareks “YEKINDAR” Galinskis’ best efforts, his side lost the best-of-three series with a score of 1-2. By far, the weakest player on the server was Nick “nitr0” Cannella, who had one of his worst days in CS:GO.

After the elimination of Liquid, the top three teams in CS:GO were officially out of the tournament. Nobody would have predicted such a result.

The remaining four teams that got eliminated were Sprout, Bad News Eagles, ENCE, and BIG.

The teams that qualified for the Champions Stage

Some of the qualified teams were expected to do well at the IEM Rio Major. Heroic, Natus Vincere, MOUZ, and Cloud9 here held in high regard ahead of the tournament, so it’s not a major surprise that they will play in the final stage of the competition.

The big surprises were FURIA Esports, Outsiders, Fnatic, and Spirit. In particular, FURIA Esports finished the Legends Stage with a perfect record and might win their first Major in their history. However, the first match of the Champions Stage will be tough. Because the opponent is Natus Vincere.
