Undoubtedly, the first tournaments of each season always leave us with many surprises. They can be pleasant and not so pleasant (depending on where you look at them).

In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, we are used to seeing some teams that, although nobody gives anything for them, show an exceptional level of play and leave big teams in the way. But, on the other hand, some teams do not find the perfect gear in the season’s first weeks.

G2 Esports sends FaZe Clan to the Lower Bracket

While this could not be considered a surprise, as the level of play of G2 Esports in recent months has been phenomenal, no one expected FaZe to fall to the Lower Bracket. Let’s remember that FaZe arrived as one of the favorites to lift the IEM Katowice trophy for the second consecutive year.

And it is not only the fact that FaZe has fallen into the hands of G2 at this point of IEM Katowice but the way they did it. On the first map, Nuke, the match started with a give and take from both teams; there is no doubt that the map was up for grabs for either team. However, when everything seemed to indicate that FaZe would take the victory, G2 reacted with three consecutive rounds to take the victory 16-14.

This seemed to affect FaZe significantly, as Ancient was, without a doubt, a different story. G2 started with a bang and crushed FaZe with a 16-7 victory. Karrigan and his boys will surely remember this defeat for a long time. Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and Justin “jks” Savage were responsible for sending FaZe to the Lower Bracket.

No doubt, matches between G2 Esports and FaZe Clan are always very exciting. This is mainly because both teams are star-studded, which is a lovely long-standing rivalry.

Surprise teams

As we mentioned, teams are always surprised in the year’s first tournaments. This time we have IHC at IEM Katowice 2023.

The Mongolian team has managed to eliminate Russian powerhouse Cloud9 in the quarterfinals of the Lower Bracket. Although the scores were close (16-14) on both maps, the team continues to make history. Now, IHC will face FaZe Clan to fight for a place in the Lower Bracket Grand Final and stay in the race for the coveted IEM Katowice trophy.

NaVi and G2 Esports to play in the Group A Final

Group A is close to being defined in the Upper Bracket, as all the focus is on the Lower Bracket. First, however, we must highlight an extraordinary final that G2 Esports and NaVi will give us.

The Samurais continue with phenomenal performance and have reached the grand final after leaving BIG and FaZe Clan on the road. While NaVi did the same by sending the already eliminated Cloud9 and Team Liquid to the Lower Bracket.
