FaZe Clan started ESL Pro League S19 with high hopes and a victory against Imperial Esports. Despite struggling on the first map, Inferno, karrigan’s team eventually won 2 – 0 and had to play against Astralis in the upper bracket semifinals.
The two teams had encountered each other at IEM Chengdu, where Astralis won the first match while FaZe won the more important second match, which took place in the semifinals.
This time, Astralis proved to be the stronger team again and won 2 – 0. After that, dev1ce and his crew went on to beat 3DMAX in the upper bracket Final. Thanks to these results, they will start the playoffs in the quarterfinals and have the opportunity to win the trophy with just three consecutive wins. It won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible.
Meanwhile, FaZe Clan dropped to the mid bracket, where they had to play against Virtus.pro. This was another opportunity for karrigan to show his class and he didn’t disappoint. On Vertigo, the score was 13 – 10. But on Mirage, it was 13 – 4. During the entire match, frozen and broky did what they usually do. Their fantastic scores helped FaZe Clan obtain a much-needed victory.

In the mid bracket semifinal, FaZe Clan encountered Eternal Fire and lost the first map, Anubis, which was picked by EF. The score was 9 – 13. On the second and third maps, things went much better for them: 13 – 11 on Mirage and 13 – 8 on Inferno.
To everyone’s surprise, karrigan had a higher number of kills than any of his teammates. The best player on the server was woxic, whose 56 – 36 score should have been enough to give EF the victory. But because of several key rounds that were lost by the Turks, the winning team was FaZe.
What’s Next for FaZe Clan
Because they placed third in their group, FaZe Clan advanced to the playoffs but they will need to start in the Round of 16 and win five consecutive matches to claim the trophy. On paper, this looks extremely difficult but it’s not impossible. After all, this is the team that won IEM Chengdu and played in the Grand Final of IEM Katowice and PGL Major Copenhagen this year.
Judging by the players’ scores, it would appear that karrigan is currently playing more of a core role for FaZe while frozen has taken some of his responsibilities. We can’t know for sure but it’s hard to believe that FaZe Clan’s IGL can be their highest fragger while frozen, who is a formidable player, can finish with a score of 24 – 45.
