The Diablo fan community had high hopes for Diablo 4’s PvP; however, those hopes have been shattered as Blizzard has confirmed that they have no plans to active esports for the new version of the title.

Recently the Diablo developers have announced that they have no plans to support competitive events for Diablo 4. Blizzard executives comment that PvP games generally don’t usually have major activities like PvE game modes, which have a broader competitive environment.

In Diablo 3, for example, the community initiates a competition every new season to establish a leaderboard in Hardcore mode. However, in the game’s new version, the game developers brought back the PvP mode, which has made the community doubt whether a legitimate esports culture will be possible.

Diablo 4 PvP

The release of Diablo 4 PvP is scheduled for the first days of June, according to what Blizzard has stated. However, the game developers have only revealed that the PvP zones will be named “Fields of Hate.”

Diablo 4 users will be able to fight each other freely in the PvP zone; moreover, it will be an open world similar to that seen in an MMO, not a structured PVP as many would expect.

However, those are all the details known about Diablo 4 so far; it is expected that the game developers will reveal more details during the two months until its release.

Blizzard’s stance on Diablo 4 Esports

Diablo CEO Rod Fergusson has made a post on Twitter where he makes it clear that Blizzard has no intention of supporting Diablo 4 esports. However, this stance is easy to understand if you consider the details they have provided about the game’s PVP.

There is a likelihood that fans of the game will fully coordinate Diablo 4 esports. This would not be the first time that this has happened in a video game esport; external organizations are already in charge of organizing and making competitive events of some titles a reality.

Even games not designed to host a competitive environment have very vibrant and crowded environments. Should that happen in Diablo four, perhaps Blizzard will reconsider its position on the game’s esports.

Diablo PvP

In Diablo 1 and Diablo 2, PvP was beloved by the gaming community. However, it never escalated to a competitive scene. For Diablo 3, The community had high expectations for the new PvP, but the game developers only provided a meager Brawl mode. It can be said that Blizzard has a lot of potential to develop PvP modes, but they failed to make the most of it.

We must wait until June 6 to enjoy the new PvP and see what it will offer to the users.
