A Tokyo Game Show Event Briefing took center stage on April 10, 2024, at Microtel, Pasay City, part of the Philippines’ national capital region.

The Tokyo Game Show (東京ゲームショウ, Tōkyō Gēmu Shō), commonly known as TGS, is a video game trade fair and convention held annually in Japan. It is presented by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) and Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. The main focus of the show is on Japanese games, but some international video game developers use it to showcase upcoming releases/related hardware. The 4-day event is divided between the first two days of Tokyo Game Show, which are open only to industry attendees (business) and the Public Day, on the final two days of the event.

Gathering enthusiasts, industry insiders, and media representatives, the briefing was a resounding success, providing attendees with exclusive news and updates about the upcoming major gaming event. The briefing was hosted by Philippine events company CBZN Perspective, alongside representatives from Nikkei Business Publications.

Fragster.com compiled some of the highlights from this exclusive briefing attended by local and international journalists.

80 INDIE GAME DEVS TO SHOWCASE THEIR GAMES FOR FREE!

In a groundbreaking announcement, the Tokyo Game Show revealed that it has selected 80 indie game developers to showcase their games at the event for free. This initiative underscores Tokyo Game Show’s commitment to supporting and promoting indie talent, providing them with a platform to reach a global audience.

More specific details for this will be announced at a later date and through the TGS website, but to have more developers, especially independent ones, to be allowed a slot at a major gaming event, is nothing short of phenomenal.

Part of the perks are a free exhibit in the Indie Game Area, free support for the devs including PCs, monitors, and interpreters, as well as introduction of gaming titles in a special distribution program.

A digital counterpart will also be made available to those who won’t be able to come on site, such as the official exhibitor program and the now-renamed TGS Digital World 2024, to highlight a focus on the ever-evolving digital space.

A special venue for the Tokyo Game Show will also be held on Steam, featuring specific categories, such as newly-announced titles, a wishlist, trial plays, a game search, new pick-ups, and the 80 selected indie games.
