VALORANT Agent 22 teaser image released

VALORANT’s Agent 22 isn’t due out for a few months, but fans have a little treat for now. Riot Games decided to surprise fans with a little teaser image and keep the hype warm.

In VALORANT, a new agent will be released fairly reliably every four months. The release of Gekko completely turned the meta on its head, and the developers still have several weeks to come up with a suitable sequel.

What does the teaser image show?

Although the next agent with the number 22 will not be released until July this year at the earliest, Riot has provided fans with a teaser image that shows roughly what the agent will look like and a tip on the agent’s aesthetics.

The teaser image was revealed as part of a new player map. At first glance, the picture looks industrial, a machine with a window in the middle. In the center you can see something blue, cloaked, but it could also be a tornado.

The biggest clue is the text on the right side of the capsule. It appears to read 008, indicating that the next VALORANT agent in the lore is officially Agent 8. The number 8 has been missing from the game since release as Agent 7 Sage skips straight to Agent 9 Phoenix. Other serial codes and labels can also be seen, but the 008 marking is the only real clue to identity. Agent number 8 is a big mystery and fans are excited to see who might be behind it.

What about Sequoia?

Before this teaser was released, a few fans found filenames for a new character codenamed Seqouia in the game’s code. Hints on social media also pointed to Nick Wu as the agent’s lead designer. Wu also developed Fade. There aren’t any definite connections between the Sequoia datamine leak and the official VALORANT Agent 22 teaser, though, but that doesn’t rule out all connections.

The picture could also represent some kind of cryo-freezing chamber, which is often used in science fiction films, for example, to freeze human life for the future (which usually ends in chaos). For example, the next agent could be very old and thawed for VALORANT fans. There’s also the possibility that Seqouia was just a false trail not related to the actual agent — but that’s all just speculation. But we probably won’t have to wait much longer before we get more information about Agent 22.
