LCL team Unicorns of Love have announced the release of the remainder of their roster. The move comes days after moving several key players to the organization’s academy team in Germany.

The Russian-based team, who has dominated the League of Legends Continental League for the past three years, currently has no players listed on their roster. They also transferred Head Coach and Founder Fabian “Sheepy” Mallant, as well as a number of key players, to the org’s academy team, Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition.

The LCL was not present at MSI 2022 after the league’s Spring split was suspended following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. With the war still ongoing, it appears unlikely that the LCL Summer split will go ahead.

This appears to be the reasoning behind the recent roster moves made by Unicorns of Love, arguably the league’s most dominant, and well-known, team.

On May 24, Latvian ADC Artyom “Shiganari” Pervushin and Head Coach Sheepy were both announced to be moving from Unicorns of Love to the German-based academy team, Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition. On May 27, German jungler Finn-Lukas “Don Arts” Salomon also moved to Sexy Edition while the remaining players — top laner Aleksandr “NoNHoly” Ovchinikov, mid laner Alexey “Phlaty” Lemeshchuk, and support Alexander “Lekcyc” Lexikov — were released. Notably, all three players not transferred to the academy team are Russian nationals.

Shiganari and Don Arts are currently listed as substitutes for Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition while Sheepy, who is also the Founder of Unicorns of Love, has taken over as Head Coach. Unicorns of Love Sexy Edition, who compete in the top division of the Prime League, also recently caused a stir with the signing of support Kim “Winsome” Dong-keon. Winsome played the 2022 Spring split with Cloud9 in the LCS before being released after the team failed to win the North American league.

As the Prime League gets underway on May 31, the fate of the LCL is still very much unknown.
