Riot has provided Affiliate links to LEC and LCS teams, allowing them to earn a 5-10% cut of any purchases made by fans using their Affiliate link.
Riot’s revenue share experiment is solely focused on the Star Guardian event, so fans can only buy Star Guardian skins from affiliate shops. This initial rollout is almost a month-long experiment including esports organizations in North America and Europe. Depending on the results of the initial test, we could see the affiliate link program potentially expanded in other regional leagues like the LCK and LPL, including more creators from the SEA region.
The test will run from July 14 to August 9 and it will provide the esports team between 5% and 10% of the revenue from a skin sale, depending on the type of Star Guardian skin purchased from their unique link.
The LEC organizations were the first to react, with the CEOs of G2 and Fnatic responding in their own style. While Fnatic CEO Sam Matthews posted a simple tweet to express his excitement, the CEO of G2 Esports, Carlos ‘Ocelote’ Rodriguez appealed to the fans with a video of himself cosplaying as Star Guardian Soraka.

Sam Matthews, CEO of Fnatic, commented:
“This could pave the way to strong growth for the whole ecosystem, allowing us to use our audiences to drive growth to the publisher, and in turn, we can hire/spend more on talent/staff/content”, “a rising tide, lifts all boats”.
Star Guardian Event will fuel Riot’s Social Impact fund
On June 28, Riot Games announced that all the proceeds made from the sales of Star Guardian Taliyah would be donated to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund. The Riot Games Social Impact Fund is Riot’s non-profit entity created in early 2019 and aimed at helping others in need around the world. Riot has been using revenue generated from its various game titles to make direct investments into various relief funds focused on humanitarian causes.
Riot will contribute 20% of proceeds recorded between July 14 to August 15 from League of Legends’ Star Guardian Event Pass to the Riot Games Social Impact. Furthermore, Riot will also contribute all the proceeds collected between July 28 to August 29 from Star Guardian Taliyah Bundle including Star Guardian Taliyah Skin, Border Set, Chroma Bundle, and All-Star Bundle to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund.
Riot Games will contribute a dollar for every 10 chaos monsters defeated by players between July 14 and August 11 to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, with a maximum contribution up to $2m.
