Emmett Shear, who held the position of CEO of Twitch, has made public his decision to leave the company after 16 years of service. With this choice, a long career in the service of a company owned by Amazon ends.

The news was announced yesterday through a farewell message from Emmett Shear. In his publication, he indicates that he is retiring from his job because he wants to focus on the next stage of his life.

Emmett Shear leaves Twitch after 16 years

The CEO of Twitch says goodbye to his position through a post; he comments that he started his career at Twitch in 2006, long before the site became what we all know today.

Shear is stepping down as CEO. He will still serve as an advisor on the platform, though. However, he comments that the time has come to devote himself to his family and take on other challenges.

Dan Clancy to be Twitch’s new CEO

According to Emmett Shear himself, the person in charge of replacing him as CEO is Dan Clancy, the current president of the platform.

Shear affirms that Dan Clancy is ideal for the position since he cares about the Twitch community.

On the other hand, Shear comments that he feels total gratitude towards those who have trusted him from the beginning of his work. He also thanks the streamers for making the platform grow daily to position it where it is now.

Emmett Shear thanks not only the streamers community but also Amazon. He comments that there is no better buyer for the platform than them; without their contribution, they would not have been able to develop as they have.

To conclude his farewell message, Shear thanks everyone for their support and trust.

Emmett Shear’s trajectory in Twitch

Emmett Shear has been in charge of the platform’s CEO position since 2011. During his 11 years in the position, Twitch has grown impressively; it currently has more than 8 million monthly active users dedicated to making their broadcasts.

The platform has come to be recognized as the most popular platform for game broadcasts, being the biggest competitor of YouTube.

However, not everything has been easy; some of the most famous streamers of the platform have abandoned it, as they consider that the distribution of profits is unfair.

Among the most significant controversies is the 50-50 distribution of subscriptions, unlike YouTube, which is 70-30; many streamers decided to go to the competition because they obtained better benefits.

It is undeniable that during Emmett Shear’s career at the helm of Twitch, the platform reaped great successes despite the difficulties that may have arisen.
