Riot limits opportunities for VALORANT teams to compete for Ascension

fragster Maria 4. May 2023

Riot Games has limited the opportunities for VALORANT teams by implementing a new promotion system to compete in the NA VALORANT Challengers.

In this new Riot Games promotion system, the chances for teams are much lower; due to the increased difficulty.

New promotion and relegation system for NA VALORANT Challengers

Recently VALORANT Esports has published the promotion and relegation structure for the next season of the NA VALORANT Challengers. According to the new format, emerging teams will have few chances to join the VALORANT American League.

However, in this new format, teams already participating in the League must maintain a good performance; otherwise, they will be relegated. Therefore, for the 2024 season, the playoffs will start immediately after the end of the second division of the League, which is currently underway.

The Playoffs will only be open to the top 8 teams in the League; teams outside those positions risk relegation and being out of the League.

Now, the top 8 teams at the end of the 2023 season will automatically participate in the NA Challengers League 2024, so they will not need to go through the qualification process. Now, the four teams left in the worst positions in the League must compete in a double-elimination tournament to find out who will be relegated. This small tournament will be similar to the GSL, and the winners will earn a spot for the following season.

As a result of this new system, two places will be available for the teams that participate in the qualifiers by 2024. These two places will go to the winners of the upper and lower group finals.

On the other hand, it is important to note that the two teams relegated at the end of the 2023 season can participate in the next season’s qualifiers.

Little chance of qualifying for the next season of the NA Challengers League

Getting a shot at the VALORANT North American League has become more difficult and intimidating for all teams. From now on, many teams that have not qualified for the Challengers will be fighting for only two spots.

In the new system, things remain the same for teams not qualifying for the NA Challengers League; they must wait until the following year to try to get a spot.

Finally, it is important to comment that the statement released by Riot Games has not specified how La Premier will be integrated into the qualifying phase. So we must wait a little longer to know how they will make it work.
