Seth “Scump” Abner announced his departure from competitive Call of Duty esports in an emotional, six-minute-long video posted to Twitter.

Scump announced his retirement from professional Call of Duty in an emotional Twitter video featuring members of OpTic Gaming including Hector “HECZ” Rodriguez, president of the organization. Scump, who could be seen sobbing in the video, declared that he was stepping down to allow others to succeed.

After a successful career lasting more than ten years, in which he won over 30 competitions, including two X-Games, the CoD prodigy will now focus on content creation. He also promised to continue attending events moving forward, but this time as a spectator rather than as a rival for the first time in ten years.

Many professional players, streamers, and fans come by to pay their respects to one of the greatest Call of Duty professionals in the world, including popular streamers Dr Disrespect, iconic CoD player James “Clayster” Eubanks, Atlanta Faze’s Chris “Simp” Lehr, NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns, and Scump’s former teammate Sam “Octane” Larew and Matthew “FormaL” Piper.

The last brick of OpTic’s golden era wall has fallen

With Scump’s retirement, one of the most illustrious and enduring periods in esports history comes to a conclusion. Each member—FormaL, Ian “Crimsix” Porter, Damon “Karma” Barlow, and Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag—of OpTic Gaming’s decorated squad that won 18 offline competitions and one championship title, has now officially retired.

The 2017 Call of Duty World Championship and the 2016 Esports Award for Esports Console Player of the Year are just a couple of the many honors Scump has received throughout his illustrious career. He also won the 2021 100K World Series of Warzone SoloYolo Championship after defeating some of the world’s finest CDL and Warzone pros.

Entering the battlefield for the last time in OpTic’s green jersey, Scump guided his squad to a 3-2 victory over the Boston Breach in the final game of his career. In his new position, Scump topped OpTic in damage and had the highest KD of 1.22 in the lobby.

OpTic fills the void with Dashy

A few hours after Scump announced his retirement, the Texas CDL team revealed its revised starting lineup for the games scheduled for this weekend. The team will consist of Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro, Cuyler “Huke” Garland, Indervir “Illey” Dhaliwal, and Brandon “Dashy” Otell.

The team’s new makeup is expected to boost their performance and put them back in contention to win significant championships and the CDL Championship later this year, according to the organization. Scump also stated that he would remain close to the action and would take advantage of his newfound time to interact with his fans more than he had previously been able to.
