The last 8 teams at The International 12

The International 12 featured 20 competitors and 60% of them have been eliminated. We’re down to the final eight teams and the winner will be decided on October 29 in Seattle. The prize will be $1.4 million, which isn’t bad for an esports event.

Looking at the top eight teams in this tournament, we quickly arrive at the conclusion that five of them finished Dota Pro Circuit 2023 in the top 12. Of the remaining three, two were in the top 20 and the third was ranked 24^th at the end of the regular season.

This clearly shows that the DPC rankings were highly relevant and that the act of determining the TI12 participants based on them guarantees that the world’s best teams attend the event.

We don’t know what will happen next year after the elimination of the circuit and how transparency will be guaranteed. But for now, we can enjoy the last three days of TI12, which will be played between October 27-29.

The remaining eight teams

Here are the teams that are left in the race:

• Upper Bracket: Team Spirit, Team Liquid, LGD Gaming, Azure Ray
• Lower Bracket: nouns, Gaimin Gladiators, BetBoom Team, Virtus.pro

Whatever happens, China is guaranteed a top three result at this tournament. In principle, LGD Gaming should defeat Azure Ray and likely qualify for the Grand Final as well, but we might see Somnus and fy getting revenge against their former organization.

Spirit and Liquid faced each other at Riyadh Masters twice and the winner was Spirit. This pattern will likely continue, case in which the upper bracket Final might end up being a rematch between Spirit and LGD. The two teams played the Grand Final of TI10, but LGD’s roster was different back then.

In the lower bracket, there’s very little that could stop Gaimin Gladiators in their next match against nouns. But after that point, every single match will be difficult. Gladiators’ best chance would be against Team Liquid, simply because they’ve played against them many times this year and won every single match.

But even if they win that match, they will need three more victories to win the tournament. No matter how strong you are, when you need to compete against world-class teams, getting so many consecutive victories is highly unlikely. One mistake is enough to get you eliminated from the race.
