Once again, a controversy has erupted around Atlanta FaZe in the CDL regarding a sound configuration the team allegedly uses to take advantage of its rivals. However, in the last few hours, the team has denied all allegations about using Loudness Equalization to improve game performance.

As we know, this information revolves around Atlanta FaZe since the times of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, where the team managed to win the world champions trophy.

Loudness Equalization – What is it?

After this setting caused so much controversy in previous seasons and MW2 and Warzone 2, many players abused it; the CDL pros agreed they would not use Loudness EQ in their tournaments.

This setting lets players have better audio concerning enemy footsteps on the map. This undoubtedly provides a tremendous audio advantage for teams using it instead of those using the standard in-game sound.

As mentioned, one of the “gentleman’s agreements” CDL players have is not to use Loudness Eq in official matches. However, throughout the season, rumors have been heard and read about several players who may have used this setting to get the most out of the games.

Atlanta FaZe stood firm in its decision to oppose using Loudness Eq and strongly urged the rest of the teams not to use it. However, now they are accused of using this setting since long before Modern Warfare 2.

Hicksy accuses FaZe Clan players of using Loudness Eq

Charlie “Hicksy” Hicks, one of the stars of the reigning Major III champion, Toronto Ultra, accused FaZe Clan of using the setting since the Cold War season. In an interview on the Merk and Maven podcast, Hicksy said that in Call of Duty: Vanguard, his teammates were using it, and according to them, they had obtained it thanks to FaZe Clan in Cold Ward.

According to Hicksy, Faze were the first team to start using Loudness EQ back in Cold War from CoDCompetitive

One of the Atlanta FaZe players, Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris, responded in this same Reddit thread that what Hicksy said on the podcast was a “blatant lie.” The player points out that the team didn’t know about Loudness EQ until the first season of Modern Warfare 2.

On the other hand, Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson posted an image on Twitter where he tags three of FaZe’s players regarding what Hicksy said on the podcast. Minutes later, Chris “Simp” Lehr responded with a comment that, quite simply, says it all:

“EXCUSE ME.”

The situation is this: it is currently impossible to know which equipment has used Loudness EQ unless they acknowledge it, which will certainly not happen. On the other hand, to avoid this kind of controversy, the CDL has to take action and place restrictions on tournament PCs or perform random checks by some suspicion.
