For the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Overwatch World Cup returns this year; the group from the UK that will be in charge of organizing the most excellent Overwatch team the Seven Lions have to offer has been unveiled.

General Manager

Mathew “TazMo” Taylor, manager of the Dallas Fuel, will be the nation’s general manager, it was announced today by the Overwatch Team U.K. Twitter account. Since the league’s debut, the 32-year-old Scottish player has been affiliated with the organization, currently the Overwatch League champion.

Head Coach

Coach Christopher “ChrisTFer” Graham of the London Spitfire will assist him in his role as head coach. It was probably a simple choice to choose the 27-year-old British head coach of the league’s lone UK-based side as Coach of the Year for the Overwatch League 2022.

After serving as head coach of the Philadelphia Fusion, ChrisTFer began his stint with the Spitfire in October 2021. He played tank professionally until about 2018 but was never a member of an Overwatch League roster. In 2019, ChrisTFer assisted the head coach with the national team.

Social Lead

Welsh graphic designer Tee, who has worked with many OWL teams featured on her website, including Excelsior, Eternal, and Mayhem, will be the team’s social media manager.

Team U.K. has never finished higher than fourth place in an Overwatch World Cup. The nation’s best performance came in 2018 when it finished fourth and lost to Canada 3-2 in the third-place match.

Overwatch World Cup 2023

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed the format of the online qualifiers for the Overwatch World Cup, which will return later this year for the first time since 2019.

Thirty-six teams from three locations worldwide will compete throughout the tournament, with selectable nations and regions chosen based on Overwatch 2 player population data. Each region’s committee has to choose their players starting in March to choose the seven national representatives by April.

The top sixteen teams will be chosen to compete in the LAN event; each nation has two months to prepare as much as possible, as each regional group will begin in June. The teams from each regional group will compete in June for one of the 16 spots in the final LAN tournament, which Blizzard said will happen in the fall of 2023.
