Super Smash Bros Ultimate Patch 13.0.2 Update!

Nintendo Switch title Super Smash Bros. Ultimate receives update 13.0.2. While it only contains a few lines of patch text, this small update does the job and makes Kingdom Hearts compatible with the new Sora amiibo figure.

The Kingdom Hearts series keyblade wielder is featured in the Sora amiibo and will arrive on February 16th, 2024. As the last Super Smash Bros. amiibo to arrive, Sora concludes an incredible journey that started in 2018.

For all those not familiar with amiibo, Nintendo’s collection of collectible figurines will be tapped on a Nintendo Switch controller or console to unlock content in suitable games. In Smash Ultimate, a player can scan an amiibo to have a computer-controlled “Figure Player” interpret the fighter’s appearance and moveset during battles.

The Sora amiibo has received widespread attention since the character was announced as the last DLC fighter in Smash Ultimate’s Fighters Pass Vol. 2 back in October 2021. Sora was a surprisingly welcome addition to the ultimate Nintendo crossover party, bringing one of gaming’s biggest breakout stars into the fold.

Just in Time for Sora Amiibo Launch!

Update 13.0.2’s sparse patch notes simply state: “Sora amiibo compatibility fixes (should be coming soon)” Light on details aside, this line confirms that Smash players will be able to scan the Sora amiibo when it launches, and have the Figure Player recreate Sora’s look and moveset.

For Smash fans, it’s a fresh perspective on playing Sora and their new amiibo. With his quick, fluid combos and insane air mobility, Sora was a blast to play in human hands. Figure Players can whizz around stages doing killer combos like creator Tetsuya Nomura dreamt of.

The Sora amiibo is also a collector’s item and completes the Smash Bros set. During Ultimate’s campaign of DLC fighters, Nintendo offered amiibo for Cada one-character (Joker, Hero, Mythra, Kazuya, Sephiroth and more). It was becoming increasingly difficult to find older Smash amiibo releases, and Sora may be your last chance to grab a brand new one for the downloadable content.

Is Sora the best Smash amiibo ever? Could be, though Nintendo has kept mum on what the series does after Ultimate. The Bandai Namco staff in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate developer team apparently have other projects on the go as well, we could be looking for quite a long time before any announcement is made. But of course many fans are still waiting for Smash 6 on whatever Nintendo next console brings out.

Meanwhile, Smash Ultimate players can scan their new Sora amiibo to add his signature fighter to their roster. For the designers at Nintendo and Bandai Namco, the Sora amiibo release coincides with version 13.0.2 of Ultimate’s amiibo roster.

After over 5 years of steady updates, paid downloadable content, and crossover dream roster additions, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate story seems to be wrapping up – at least until we know what smashing good time Nintendo has in store for us next.
